16 days post op and nerve damage killing me

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experiences this, and if so how long this it last? On or about the seventh day of surgery I started experiencing stabbing pain and my skin felt like it was on fire. This was around one of my incisions of course. I was so worried thinking that it was an infection. But the incisions looked like they were healing fine. The pain would become intolerable when I moved certain ways when I laid down. Some up in tears and when awake would cry quietly and no clue what was wrong. It seems like its a nerve that was damaged, one of the risk of surgeries I guess. I just want to know how long before it heals? Does Anyone knows? The pain at night literally paralyses me sometimes. Until my husband doesn't lift me from a laying position I can't move on my own. :(

Thank you Cassandra. But your pain went away in how long? I've read that tummy tucks and Lipo are common for nerve damage so that's what it probably was. I've been reading all day but no a answers yet? I just took a Percocets and I hope that it works tonight.

I would call the doctor. It took me a while until I could sleep on my left side. Feel better

Don't guess, it could one of many things and you have no way of knowing the cause by symptom checking online. It may be minor but it could be serious and require medical attention.

Call your doctor and find out the real reason.

Hi, yes my pain went away when I.had that stitch removed. My skin was growing around it. That's the only pain I experienced with those procedure. I would contact my doctor because it seems you are in some REAL discomfort. Best wishes

I told my dr that my skin was on fire and he's the 1 that told me thA was due to a nerve being cut during surgery and gave me more Percocets. I guess I will have to make an appointment with a neurologist for some different medication

Is this an on going condition or does it go away? I don't want to get second thoughts about the surgery.

Sometimes it goes away. However if I had to do it again. I wouldn't. Do your research. The good the bad and the ugly.

I have I have been researching for 3 years or so. However, everyone I have ran into and know that has had this surgery has not complain about this. This is the first time I am hearing of it. It was always the pain in the shoulder from gas and around the port area. I am going to ask my doctor is there anything that can be done to reduce the risk of this happening and how many of his patients have complained about this particular pain. I really home you feel better. From the looks of it it seem that it will go away. Hopefully soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
