Weight Training-help Or Hindrance?

Oh I want to second that too.....a women is NOT going to become overly muscular without a lot of work. Women body builders have insance diets and suppliments to look like that. Body builders don't maintain the "show body" all the time either. It's actually UNHEALTHY for them to maintain it, since they diet in a "cutting" phase as they call it to lower their body fat percentage to as low as possible.

Charlee

I went last thursday for my first fill. That was 8 weeks post op. After he stuck my port I asked if everything was normal and he said yes. Then I went on to tell him at 5 weeks post op I had began working out. I was only rep'ing 225 on the bench and did not want to push any more for fear of busting my port loose. anyway I asked if there would be a problem for me to push my weight training back up and he said no problem. I did tell him I had stayed away from my shrug cage and asked him if it was ok to return to doing deadlifts, shrugs and squats since you tend to use a lot of stomach muscles and he said "get after it!!" I am currently 9 weeks post op and shruging 405 pounds and I have no worries. I hope to be in the 600's with in the next 2 months. So I doubt you will cause any problems unless you are a slow healer. I would however discuss it with your doctor before doing extremely heavy wiehgt training if this is indeed what you are after.

Slow, controlled reps with less weight is what you want. Muscle burns ft and sugar just sitting around doing nothing, so you want more of it.

For me and my body frame, cardio works the best. If I was to do weight training I add bulk and size and will look like a hefty linebacker. Just doesn't work for me. I think it all depends on how your body is shaped and puts on muscle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
