I just have a week with the band. Got it on march 27. But I wanted to see how if later on I can eat spicy food. I have craving Tabasco sauce and jalapeños.

Personally I don't like spicy food, so can't help you. Go ahead and give it a try.

Your band will let you know if it likes it or not.

I had surgery on 3.27 and I tried hot sauce today with my food. It went ok and I plan on having it again depending on the meal. Jut try a little bit and see how it does.

I love spicy food, but I find it doesn't always sit as well as it used to.

I have no issues with spicy foods now. Pre-band, different story. Mine acid reflux is totally resolved, no issues at all for me. :)

I love spicy food. I have had it twice with my stage II diet, and have had no problems. I only used a small amount. I will be trying more at stage III and beyond.

I have a love/hate relationship with spicey food so I leave it alone. Spicey in...Spicey out.

Post band I am actually able to eat spicy foods. I used to have to chase spicy foods with tums. I seriously kept a huge bottle of max strength tums in my house at all times. Mind you I have no restriction yet so not sure I will be able to as I go along.

Don't forget that you can't drink while eating. That makes spicy food a problem for me. I still eat it (and crave a drink of Water for the full 45 minutes afterwards!) Spicy food should be fine for your band. The food doesn't actually come into conatct with the band.

Why cant you drink while eating? My doctor said its fine to take small sips while eating. Im in the pureed stage but basically have been eating just mushie food.< /p>

I had to have all of my Fluid removed form my band today because I ate some spicy food and it triggered wicked acid reflux. It lasted about four days and after that all I could keep down was liquids yesterday I could not even keep liquids down. My doctor actually wanted to admit me for IV medications and fluids. I think because I have had my band for awhile (7 yrs) I am more sensitive to reflux now than I was prior. I cannot even eat a sliver of a raw onion without almost instant regret. I am on Prilosec and Protonix. Just be careful everyone is different. Carley you do not want to drink with the band because now you basically have two stomachs the pouch from your band and the one you were born with. The food that you eat will stay in your pouch and slowly breakdown and then will slip down into your stomach and digest. If you drink it will push your food through the pouch and into your stomach and now you fell like you did not even eat and it defeats the purpose of the band. My physician does not want me to drink 30 minuets prior to eating or during and then wait an hour after eating before drinking.

Its highly recommended not to drink at all while eating because its like eating slider foods. It helps push your food down faster which means you become hungry sooner. Hope how I worded that makes sense. Lol. As for spicy food. I've been adding spice slowly as I used to eat peppers raw because I love them and so far no issues. Its better now that my gapping hernia has been repaired lol best of luck on everyone's spices haha.

Advice, directions, suggestions, information around "drinking" while eating seems to be evolving all the time. A lot of the newer information I see/read suggests that the food only stays in your pouch/above the band for less than a couple of minutes. I believe this. I can feel the food passing through mine now at times. While drinking to wash food through to allow you to eat more seems detrimental, I don't understand IF the food has already passed through, what it could hurt?? But I'm me and certainly no doctor or expert...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
