Hi! I'm New to this Forum

Recommended Posts

I just found this forum! I had my lap band surgery on January 30,2013. I've lost about 31 pounds. My surgeon did the 1st fill and then the nurse in the bariatric center will do the rest of the fills. I just had my second fill. The weight loss had really SLOWED down!!! I told her how I was getting hungry after about 2 1/2 to 3 hours after eating. She told me to start eating some greens with my meat. So, I just started adding greens last night. I cooked some cabbage and at that with my meat

I KNOW the doctor said the weight loss would slow down but, I only lost 4 pounds in March. Is this normal? I don't have ANYONE I can talk to. I just don't feel I'm getting as full as I did in the beginning. Am I just being too impatient? Thanks for listending!

Hi Kathy and welcome to LBT. My weight loss started off very slow as well and I went weeks at a time without any scale movement. It was very frustrating in the beginning because I feel I just had major surgery so why isn't the weight falling off? My weight loss actually picked up speed as time went on as I was getting my fills. I lost a great deal of weight off and on with time but not like I expected. It took me 9 months and 9.5cc in my band to finally hit the green zone. I have lost 31lbs alone since my final fill on Jan 29th. Now that is the scale movement I've been waiting for.

Everyone is different on their fill needs but I wanted to give you a different perspective. It is true as you get closer to goal it may slow down but the best yet to come. Find that green zone where ever it may be for you and enjoy the journey while it's happening.

You're at 31lbs in 3 months and it sounds like you are doing wonderful. Stick with it and keep up your appointments for adjustments and things should pick up. Good luck.

Welcome and good luck with everything. I am losing slowly but losing inches and that feels great! My size keeps getting smaller even though the scale doesn't move much. I will stay within 2-3 pounds for a few months and I am fine with that. Yesterday I held up a pair of jeans and said, these won't fit and they were big at the waist, size 16. Smaller clothes are just as important as a lower scale number. I take my measurements once a month and they keep getting smaller. I see my doctor and dietitian the end of the month and I am down about 5-7 lbs since the beginning of February. Just remember it took you longer than a few months to get heavy so it will take longer than a few months to get thinner.

This site is amazing, helpful, truthful and honest! We all try to tell the truth and sometimes people don't like the truth.

Enjoy your day.

Arlene

Kathy...My weight loss was very slow. However, I feel there was a plus side to it. I don't have any loose skin. 1-2 pounds a week is what my surgeon recommends. Does your surgeon allow for Snacks? I allot myself 1200 calories a day and I will save calories for a snack between meals. This just helps me so I'm not starving at my meal. If I get to hungry I tend to eat to fast and take to big of bites without chewing enough. If I stay within my calorie range, I don't think it's important when I eat it.

Good luck and congratulations on your weight loss!

Ditto here but slow and steady wins the race! I lost 6.5 lbs in March but as long as its not going up I'm totally ok with that!

The one thing I have learned with the band is PATIENCE. You are doing great. Don't be frustrated. It takes time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
