Since being banded on 1/24/13, I have a craving for sour stuff such as lemons, sour candy, pickles, etc. Before I was banded I didn't eat sour stuff. Now I drink tea with a slice of lemon just so I can eat the lemon. I hid a couple of my kids sour candy in my purse and I'll sneak a couple of slices of pickles when I can. Where is this craving coming from??? I know it's bad for me and I need to stop eating it. I don't do it every day. I reward myself with only one of the above once a week. But I want the craving to stop!!

Other than the sour candy, I don't think there's anything wrong with pickles (although pickles are high in sodium) or lemons...as long as you can tolerate them, of course! I love ice Water or unsweetened tea with lots of lemon squeezed in it :)

Dill pickles are actually zero calories so they're a great snack! I eat them whenever I need something crunchy. Lemons are great too- you'd have to eat a ton for it actually count for calories.

Of course the candy will add up, but otherwise I think if you're going to have a craving, this is a much healthier than one than for sweet or salty.

TexasGal - I'm right there with you. Pre-surgery I liked my sweets, now I can't get enough of salt so I often eat dill pickles or pickle slices because they are sour but super salty too. I just say that my taste buds have gone mutant since surgery, but I don't mind it and, in fact, find it kind of funny at all the things I'm dying for now that I wasn't too keen on before!

Drink lots of Water and as everybody said pickles r great , sometimes I have to have some crunch so I will do pickles ,watch eating to many sweets though it cost us a lot of money to get big and now it cost us a lot of money to help us get to where we want to be lol so be careful , but it probally is ur body adjusting and you have to train your brain to think diffrently lol that's the hard part specially on food and hunger habits, wel I hope we helped in some way.

I use to love sour and salty, did not care for sweets at all. Now, other way around. Tough for me. Doctor told me that that is usual, alot of things we liked before we may no longer like and visa versa. The good thing is you can find healthy alternatives to any craving. Good luck. :D

Texasgirl in my research I learned that band recipients should avoid sour, and carbonated foods, drinks at all cost. They both are major contributors to band erosion. Best wishes to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
