koolkel 80 Posted April 3, 2013 Hi everyone! I have my first fill on the 11th and while I'm not worried about the needle pain( as I expect it to be minor and over quickly,) I am concerned about general port pain after. My port often hurts badly. It feels like it's trying to push out of my skin sometimes. Will a fill exacerbate this? I might still be swollen from the surgery ( 2/19,) but it seems that my port is just in an awkward place. Well, maybe my pain is more at the incision( which still feels like it wants to burst open! It is more uncomfortable with each day. ( I form an abundance of scar tissue, hypotrophic scars)
Lori Jo 41 Posted April 3, 2013 where is your port, mine is where my jeans hit and I am sure it is going to be painful too? one incision at the breast bone the other four are at my waist...I am worried! 1 koolkel reacted to this
SunshineTexas 20 Posted April 3, 2013 I have no pain after a fill. I just got my 4th today and seems to be getting easier. I had some pain in the surgery area post surgery, but with time it got better. I've heard ports can flip, but I think that's very rare. I hope it's just sensitive due to the incision. Good luck. 1 koolkel reacted to this
sarawray 44 Posted April 3, 2013 I remember my port being sore for a couple of months, and still 7 months later when I exercise sometimes I can tell when I have overdone it. When you get your fill, talk to your DR about your concerns about the placement. The way it was explained to me is that a piece of mesh is sewed to your muscle and the port is attached to that. That is way it is so tender sometimes. But I am sure if you ask your dr he will be happy to explain the mechanics of it so you can have some understanding of the way you feel. Good Luck!!!!! 1 koolkel reacted to this
koolkel 80 Posted April 4, 2013 where is your port' date=' mine is where my jeans hit and I am sure it is going to be painful too? one incision at the breast bone the other four are at my waist...I am worried![/quote'] I have the large port incision to the right of my belly button( the nurses in recovery told me its a larger than usual incision.) I have a small incision in the middle of my breast bone. One to the right( more on my flank) another on my left flank and another on my left but more toward middle. The little ones don't bother me a bit, but the port incision hurts like crazy! It feels swollen and enlarged in there so I'm just going to figure it's normal swelling and ill talk to my surgeon on the 11th. Ugh!
babykins529 189 Posted April 4, 2013 My port was much the same. A lil bit sore for about a month post op but I never feel it now unless I bend down and my jean top pushes it or I lean over something. As far as the fills...if the person administrating it knows what they are doing, then it will be fine. My port never hurts after. I expected it too, but it didn't. The needle is just a tiny pinch. Just relax it helps! 2 koolkel and parisshel reacted to this
marfar7 1,533 Posted April 4, 2013 Everytime I get a fill, around my port is sore and bruised for a couple days. Not bad, not even enuf for Tylenol. Just bothersome. The time the dr had to poke me 12 times was a HUGE bruise and hurt a little more! If they don't offer (most do), ask for some lidocaine. It'll be a tiny, tiny needle that will numb the area for the bigger fill needle. My dr automatically does this. Marci 1 koolkel reacted to this

Mine is on my left side, about 6" lower than my breast. It's very pronounced now that I've lost a bunch of weight. My husband says it's my littler "alien"! I know after but wasn't sure on before. I get my fills in the morning since they like my stomach pretty empty. I've heard of other's not eating 3 hours before so every doctor is different. I'd ask your doctor. 2 koolkel and parisshel reacted to this

TEAM SASHA PINK 108 Posted April 4, 2013 Great question!! I never considered it and now I have to call! I'm assuming my surgeon has no requirement or they would have said something. My fill is at 2:30 and I'm going right from work so I hope I can at least drink Water before... I wasn't allowed any liquids or food the day of my fill...the doc wouldn't even allow a mint...my second fill is Monday...the last fill there was some tenderness but no bruising...hope all goes well. 1 koolkel reacted to this
SunshineTexas 20 Posted April 5, 2013 My Dr requires no eating 3 hrs before a fill. 1 koolkel reacted to this
marfar7 1,533 Posted April 5, 2013 My dr says no food for 2 hrs prior. But I go on an empty stomach, scientifically it makes more sense. They can tighten the band tighter around an empty stomach (IMHO) Marci 1 koolkel reacted to this
