Jenni to answer your question, my daughter was 16 when she had her surgery. She was at 399 lb at 5 feet 9 in. tall. Her weight was totally out of control. Because of her age she had to have more psychological consults, however she really didn't understand the severity of her Vitamin intakes so 9 years later she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which no one really knows the cause however it has been linked to Vitamin deficiencies. She regained most of the weight but since her diagnoses she's dedicated herself to eating rite taking her Vitamins and exercise so she's lost 100 lbs in the past year. I wish I could start a crusade against childhood obesity, because there no reason y that should happen to any child. You may be too young to understand what I'm going to say but this is a summation of my life. I grew up in the foster care system without any parents. With that said, if the higher powers stood in front of me and said " you can change one thing in your life." The only thing I would change would be the way that I fed my children! You have to understand like previous post said the importance of following all the band rules, and take your nutrients. I wish you the best of luck. I just found out that my son is going to have a baby, I will make it my business to make sure that baby is fed rite from the time of his birth. Even if I have to label myself the food police. Again the best of luck, however it doesn't take luck, just determination and consistency with your journey.

Congratulations on being a Grandmother. It's the best, have 3 grandsons. When my husband made a comment to my obese son about his 5 year old's weight, my husband more or less was told, MYOB. It is better not to say anything just don't buy the wrong foods. Cook with the grandchild and show how eating proper foods is fun.My DIL since being with my son has gone from a size 10 to at least a 16 and she eats crap all day and has had MS for about 12 years and takes no meds. She is hurting herself by that.

Good luck to everyone and their journeys.

How fast or slow you lose weight has very little to do with age actually. Some people just naturally lose more rapidly than others. But regardless of what you speed you lose at- all that matters is that you are losing.

Are your parents helping and supporting you through this? It's really crucial you have the necessary information and emotional support to be successful with the band.

My mom and I did the band together (: thnx for the feedback

Is this for real?

I haven't seen a teenager write that good in a while. Lol

But anyway...

Good luck! No matter what your age is..'if you set out to succeed' date=' you will![/quote']

Lol, I'm in a foreign country so I feel that I need to try harder and succeed more in English. (I'm am real) :P , but I feel that I need to act more mature because I am on an adult website and taking on adult responsibilities (as in the surgery) so I must act and fit in as an adult! (: btw, thnx for the support

I'll try not to follow the same mistakes and I honestly truely mean that I appreciate your support. When you said "you may be too young to understand what I'm going to say" I didn't really understand :P I hope everything goes well in your grandsons life and thanks for all the great feedback (:

I'm 14 and did the surgery 5 days ago' date=' will I lose weight faster than people older than me?[/quote']

I'm so happy you and your mom did this together and can go through it together also! What I am struggling with the most is not knowing anyone who has done this. So taking to my friends don't really understand! At least you have your mom and she's understanding and Willing to help you through the next chapter of your life!

Good luck to you!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
