What is the criteria to getting a fill? Is it done monthly or is it done only if certain goals are met?

Every doctor seems to have their own ideas and rules.

Generally speaking, most surgeons will ask you about what you're eating and how often you're hungry to decide if you need a fill. They'll also ask if you're satisfied on band sized portions.

For me, I have the option for a fill monthly if I need it. If I'm satisfied on a cup or less of food for at least 4 hours, I don't need a fill. If I'm hungry after only an hour or two then I likely need a fill.

I think it really depends on your surgeon's criteria. I had surgery on November 6th and haven't had a fill yet. My surgeon only gives you a fill if you have lost less than four pounds in a month. I have been losing more than that so a fill isn't necessary. Some people don't like this way of thinking but it has worked for me. I have lost 60 pounds so far!

My surgeon only wants a weight loss of 1 to 2 punds per week . If more than 2 pounds in a week, NO fill. I think I'm close to my fill end with 6.5cc in a 14cc band. All symptoms are indicating after eating a few bites of any food, I fill up quicker on my last fill and stay full longer.

good question and i see it on this forum all the time and a zillion different answers because we all have different doctors. the best answer i can offer you is for you to ask your doctor on their particular fill protocol.

Had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery. I have to be on liquid 2 days after fill and then mushy food for a day or two and then I get to try my first real food in about 1.5 days. My doctor put in 2 cc's of Fluid at time of surgery, then 2 cc's this week. Will go back in one month to see if I need another fill.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
