6 months standstill....

Recommended Posts

FRUSTRATION!! I have been at a plateau for the past 6 months or so. Every week i'd go up and down the same 5-6 lbs. i eat around 800 calorie Monday through Friday. Only on occasions i'd fall of the wagon on the weekends and eat things i'm not suppose to but still not going over 1400 calorie. I exercise 6-7 days a week. I'm not talking a stroll in the park, i'm talking 1hr circuit training + 45 min interval training (insanity). I have been reading A LOT on line regarding plateaus and have read that maybe 800 calorie intake is too low (especially if i work out). I expressed my concern to my surgeon and he assured me that 800 is good if i consume Protein first and foremost. I do feel really fit these days, i can jog 5k with no breaks, i dont think i'm losing muscle tone. I'm just extremely frustrated that with how "good" i behave with exercise and eating through out the week, and having it all undone on a weekend of semi "bad" eating....I guess my main concern right now is: is 800 cal too little and be the problem even though my surgeon, whom i trust is adamant about it? He also recommends only 3 meals and no snacking, i know some sources recommend light Snacks between meals? i've also tried upping my calorie to 1200 for a month and still, nothing....

Have you seen a nutritionist? If I were in your shoes, I'd bring your food logs to a good nutritionist and let them help you decided where healthy changes can be made.

I also notice you're only 30 pounds from goal. The closer you get to goal the slower the weight loss becomes because your body is trying harder and harder to hang onto that fat.

Just to be safe, I'd also see your PCP and get a blood work up, just to be sure there isn't a medical reason at play causing your long plateau.

Best wishes and congratulations on your success so far.

seems you are doing amazing. miss is right about maybe seeing a nutritionist and get their opinions. but I see you as a success and just because the scale is not moving as fast/quick as it once was, does not mean it is not working now. this to shall pass.

I agree, see a nutritionist. You probably can increase your Protein and healthy carb calories and start to lose. When I first saw my nutritionist, I was eating 1400 cal. She upped me to 1800 and had me cut out the "white" calories. I lost weight.

I can relate! I've also spent the past several months with no movement on the scale, and it's so frustrating. I eat 1200-1500 calories a day, but I'm a big guy, and I work out religiously. My first thought was you probably need to up your caloric intake. However when I asked my nutritionist about this she also was adamant that it's risky to increase calories, even with vigorous exercise. I've just started to see the number on my scale creep down, so I guess it's just a matter of waiting it out. When you're doing everything right, keep it up. Your body doubtless is changing even if the scale isn't!

I'm 23 pounds to goal and have stayed the same for 2 months now, so I know how you feel.

I personally mess with things myself to see how my body responds. You aren't going to jeopardize your health by increasing your calories for a week or two. Seeing a nutritionist is great, however, everyone's bodies are different! You have to see how yours responds to different things.

I have a identical twin sister that does not lose weight by doing the same things or eating the same things as I do. She will not lose if she eats any carbs or dairy or if she lowers her calories to less than 1000 per day. I can eat both of them and lose!

Getting to know how your body responds to food and exercise can be just as frustrating as finding the "green zone" with the band.

Good luck and I hope you figure it out! Keep us posted!

:wub:Happy Friday all!! thanks for the responses and the support. Went in for a fill yesterday, now i'm at 11cc in a 14cc band. My surgeon is still adamant about not going over 800 calorie a day, while choosing lean Protein and recommended that i only weigh myself once a week instead of once a day like i have been. He also reminded me that women go through the plus and minus of 5lbs due to menstrual cycle alone. So here's to not weighing myself until next Wednesday. I can't wait to check in here, can't believe i waited so long to seek support from this community...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
