Has anyone done the Warrior Dash or any kind of mud/obstacle run?

Recommended Posts

I just registered for the Warrior Dash for mid-July, so I have over 3 months to train. Has anyone done this? Are the obstacles really hard for an overweight/obese person? I'm hoping to be 30 pounds less by then, but still worried about being too large for some of the obstacles.

Also, did you train for it and what did you do to prepare? Thanks!

My stepson did the Spartan Race last year. He was head to toe mud. No clue if he trained, but he's in pretty good shape. Said it was fun. No advice for ya, just wanted to say "have fun"!

I have heard u climb over stuff and crawl under stuff. And I also believe you can walk around it if it looks like it's too much. I had some friends that did it and loved it!! We are doing the color me rad 5K in June. I have been doing couch to 5k so maybe I can run it all!

I am also doing the color me rad in June in Portland, Or. I am working with the couch210k app.

I am also signed up for foam fest in August and warrior dash in September. Goals for the year :)

Also, there is a gym in my area that offers classes building up to adventure races. Might check with local gyms to see if they offer anything along those lines.

I have watched friends do. That doesn't count though does it :( lol I would do a couch to 5k program and you should be good. Have fun! Congrats on making the commitment!

So Scratchibali & Texasjeff, I saw photos from a Tough Mudder where you had to do a monkey bar type obstacle over a river. I'm worried about something like that on the Warrior Dash - I'm a long way away from holding my own body weight.

I'd anything, I can at least be there to help others feel better about their own shortcomings. Lol. I'll be the one wading through the river, barely holding on after 0.5k.

I've done tough Mudder twice. Warrior dash is shorter, but the same type of obstacles. It was hard but super fun!

Its a team effort. I know there will be an obstacle or two i cant do. The monkey bars will get me but there will be a nice cold wake up when i hit the Water lol. Should be fun

I did the Warrior Dash before I had the lap band and when I was 200+ pounds. I didn't train for it either. I completed it with no problem. I was tired but I did it. The obstacles are do able for just about anyone. I recommend it though. It was ALOT of fun whether your big or small!!!

Thanks! That's good to know. I just started the couch to 5k program, maybe that will help me. I'm really excited about it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
