Hey everyone,

I am new to the forum and I just wanted to say hello. I will be having my surgery in June and I wanted to know if it was someone in my area that will be getting the surgery soon. I have my Psy Evaluation Wednesday and I think after that I have to have an upper GI and that is it. I am super excited about having this procedure.

I wish you a lot of luck with your new journey. This site is great to learn the good/the bad and the whatevers. Just ask any question and someone in LBT ville will try to help with the right answers.

Thanks. I have been talking to a lot of people and you hear so many say don't get it it doesn't work and I find that hard to be true. going through this site I see many of people with success with the band. How has your journey been so far? Did you find it difficult at the start?

Hi! I got my band in July 2012 and have lost only 20 lbs. There are some successes and failures but I don't regret it. I'm learning to journey at my own pace and do the best I can. Good luck!

I am doing great. First I am older, was 61 1/2 at the surgery and have been over weight most of my adult life. The Band was the best thing I ever did. I have had 3 fills for a total of about 2 1/2 cc. I try to go to the gym 4-6 times a week. I am losing each month and lots of inches. Some people lose faster than others. One thing I never did was take before measurements and before pictures.

Thanks for responding. I understand what you mean. Everyone is different. I am going to exercise and follow the doctors instructions to a T as well as keep up with my fills. I hear that is very important on order to keep the hunger under control.

Thanks for responding. That is one thing I plan to do is become more active. I am a school teacher so when school starts back I am going to make it a habit to get out there with my students and run around. 75lbs is great !! Continued success

I see you had 300 questions. Some one else said they had over 300. I was verbally asked questions and never wrote anything down. Weird how every doctor/hospital does everything different. Glad you're done with that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
