I wish I never was hungry but then I guess I would not enjoy my food as much.

I am 6 months out, hungry a LOT. Was filled at time of surgery, and my Dr. has never done another. I've asked for it, saying i can put way too much in, not full, hungry all the time etc. Finally saw a Dr. today for 6 month appt. was told in a couple months if i still Think I may need one and am still losing and gaining and getting no where to call to make an apt. with my surgeon. Very disappointed.. :( They said too many fills make stomach erode faster or causes problems etc. but I hear about people having had a few my my stage. Confused..

I really hate to read these stories. Only because I don't believe you're being supported properly. My doc was never like this and it's almost as if doctors like yours don't understand how this all works. And, it seems like it could drive some patients to fall off the bandwagon altogether. jmo

Did your doc support your decision to go with the band or did he/she suggest a more severe type of WLS?

You might have to get in your Doc's face and demand a fill. I know I would if I were in your shoes. But, 36 lbs is OK, not great, but OK. This shouldn't be that difficult though.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to share your stories and offer advice/suggestions! It really means a lot that 'strangers' care enough to support someone who is still trying to make the right decision.

I am so sorry that some of you have had less than desirable experiences, and of course I know that statistically, that's to be expected. I'm sure you're wondering "why me?" -- I know I would be! My wish is that you find all have success with those stubborn places (whether it's hunger, lack of fills, doctors who won't listen, etc.) and become the healthiest YOU you wanted to be when you started!

And congratulations to those who have had the successes you dreamed of - your experiences are enlightening and encouraging. I'm a very positive person (sometimes too much so), and I tend to think the best WILL happen in every situation, and this one is no different. I will be looking forward to my nutrition and mental health appointments this month, and in finally getting to meet the surgeon (why won't they meet you before you jump through the hoops?).

I'd also love to hear more comments/advice from any of you who have the time and desire to share. I know how important a support system is, and though I do have about 5 people in my personal life that have had either LapBand or bypass surgeries, I'd love to have an online network of friends to commiserate/celebrate with!

thank you again for your time and input! :-)

I wish I never was hungry but then I guess I would not enjoy my food as much.

That is true....I was at that crossroads myself, had to ask myself if food was all that important to me...(not for nutrition)...and in my mind, I decided that it was killing me and that I needed to look at food entirely different than before.....

My attitude, is food is a necessary evil....like an ex-smoker looks at cigarettes, or an ex drug abuser..alcoholic...my attitude towards food has turned 180 degrees.....

Yes, there are things and times I really enjoy a good meal....but I eat only to live...not live to eat....

When we go out to eat, I can't help but look around me, at what and how much people are eating, and I now find it disgusting and revolting.....even my own family....

Good for you. I read your posts all the time. I would not choose my experience to be like yours.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
