Had a rough time eating today

Recommended Posts

It was an awful easter. Nothing would go down.. I barely ate. I had a couple of stuck episodes this week. If I go to the surgeon, can they tell if your too tight or just not eating carefully?

  1. You can tell.
  2. Are you following the rules. Cutting small, chew chew chew (20 min to eat). Are you eating Protein? What are you getting stuck on. The dr can tell from a upper gi , fluoroscope or some X-ray

Do you really only take bites the size of an eraser?

I have not been waiting a full minute between bites. Will that cause me to get stuck so frequently

I did not ever have to take really small bites until my last fill. I still do not take as small as an eraser but I am much more careful about chewing well. It is important to eat slow. I always put my fork or spoon down between bites. Sometimes I also take a five minute break half way through. Remember it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register what you eat. I agree totally with Zin's advice. I also always measure because if I do not I do not always know when to stop eating. Best of luck. Take your time and enjoy your food. You also might want to go to liquids for a day or two to let your stomach recover from your difficult times.

If you do not slow down your eating, either by taking small bites or waiting between bites you may have a higher chance of getting stuck. I find I get stuck most when I am not paying attention to what I am doing. Example, eating at my desk at work and continuing to multitask on projects. I usually get stuck or PB my food. Never hurts to talk to the doctors office.

Dime to nickel size bites and chewing to mush before swallowing is key.

Some foods kinda reconstitute into a good stopper for your stomach opening.

Waiting at least a minute between bites is crucial as well. My NUT explained that it is good practice to cut your food into 20-30 right size bites before starting and put your fork down between bites.

Other than that, it is always good to talk with your doctor about anything that is going on, including, allergies or cold and flu, emotional times(crying can produce a mucus problem like when sick), calorie intake, types of food, exercise, and episodes like you just experienced.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
