If you loose weight and it puts your bmi under 40 will the insurance still cover you? Or do they try and say that won't cover you because you loose too much weight? Just curious.

I take it you don't have any co-problems like diabetes, thyroid... My understanding is... Depending on your insurance... But I'm right on the line too. My BMI was 40.8 and my dr told me he wanted me to show that I could lose some weight so he said lose 5% which would have been 14 lbs and check back in 6 months.... (Meanwhile I had already lost 74 lbs 2 yrs ago but have put back on 35 lbs-he knows I can do it) so those 14 lbs would have put me under the 40. But he still wrote in his notes that I would be a good candidate. So honestly I don't know if my insurance would still cover me or not.

So what I did was go to the Illinois Bariatric Center... I'm not screwing around with my dr. I had my consultation, physical and already saw the dietician. When I weighed in there I weighed a few lbs heavier...a little extra Water weight from fixin to come on my period and left on my gym shoes. I came on at 43%. The sent it off to my insurance and I'm waiting to hear back. Fingers are crossed. All goes as planned I'm tentative for May!

I had to do 6 months before submitting for approval. I lost 15lbs during that time and was approved in 3 days. I was told that insurance wants to see that you are capable of following restriction and being successful- otherwise, why would they take that risk for you.

I started my journey with my lapband doc- and then went to my own doc as well. The staff that submit for approval are awesome at answering these types of questions and at getting things approved. Good luck!

I haven't gone to my doctor yet. My husband just started working again and were saving up so we can move out of his parents first. But I go to my first seminar on the 19th. My BMI is 40.9. I'm just nervous that my insurance will deny me. I have a 15 month old and since she's gotten very active I realized I wanna be more healthy and active for her, its not easy when your heavy. Thanks for the feed back.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
