Heartburn and worried.

Recommended Posts

New to LBT. Found it to be the best support site. Sorry so long.

Well, I am very comfortable with my band, I have 1.4cc in a 4cc band. I was banded January, 05 had a slip in June, 05 due to the band being to tight. Had a revision in July, 05. Lost a total of 50lbs and I'm still loosing but nice and slow. I recently moved to SD, so I established a new doc. He checked the saline in my band to see where I was and added .1cc last month. Since I've started having a lot of heartburn. And I've become very parinoid that I've slipped again, or that I'm eroding. I know I should go back to the doc to have a flouroscopy but I'm self pay. Does anyone know if you can see a slip with a regular X-ray? Any advice would be great!!

Just from reading others responses to this type of situation, it sounds like you need an unfill. Heartburn normally comes with being overfilled, this I know from experience. I have had to be unfilled because of going through the heartburn and acid reflux at night and during the day.

I do understand your concerns because I self paid and the thought of a slip truly scares me but it would be good for you to see your doctor as soon as possible.

Hi MaryHag, you can't see a slip with a normal x-ray - you'd need to do a barium swallow in order to get a view of the stomach. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that you've slipped (though I completely understand why that would be your fear) How severe is the reflux? If the heartburn is mild to moderate, I would go in for a small unfill to see if it resolves the issue. Good luck - and keep us posted!
