  1. 1. Knowing what you know now about weight loss surgery, would you do it again if you had the chance to make your decision again?

    • Yes, without a doubt! The surgery has been everything I?d hoped for.

    • Yes, probably. The journey hasn?t been easy, but I?m losing weight and feel that this was my best option.

    • Yes, but I would have chosen a different type of weight loss surgery.

    • No. I?ve had complications and my health has suffered and/or I haven?t been hitting my weight loss goals.

    • I haven?t had the surgery yet, but I?m looking at the results of this poll carefully to help me make my decision!

i would say (yes)

my dr wanted me to have the bypass at the beginning due to my size/BMI..but i was scared to death of having my insides cut. i mean once its cut, there is no going back no matter what...i also understood the pro's and con's of each WLS that was being offered to me

because i was choosing the lap band, my dr offered me the plication to help aid me. i love my dr because he stressed to me that no matter which surgery i have, unless i did my part, it would not work. so long story short, yes i would have it again.

(even after reading all the complications and taking that risk that it could happen to me, i would still say yes). its worth it to walk again...unless you couldnt walk well, you would not understand what i am referring to.

I'm still in the liquid diet phase post surgery. This is so hard. I know it will be worth it in the end and I'm taking it hour by hour.

I would definitely do it again if the stats didn't show such a high erosion rate and complications from that. I have not had any and I mean any problems, and only found the band had slipped when I went to a new doctor. Actually wouldn't have had this problem if my former doctor would have been more interested in the patient, rather than advertising for more, and more patients.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I guess you had to have another surgery?

At this point I would not, I have not been a so called poster child for Lapband. I will be seeing a new doctor on Tuesday and looking forward to a better journey. My opinion may change in time. It's great to see how many people have had success though, gives me hope that I can turn this into a great successful story of my own.

Yes, got my lapband in 2008, lost 130% of my excess weight, stayed stable for 3 years, sprung a leak that for some reason seems to be hard to find, gained weight, lost some but with difficulty, so now am opting to have a band replacement in 12 days time. So didn't just choose it once, but will be choosing it twice.

Yes I would, But don't Think anything has prepared me for the loose skin!! I am happy with the weight results but must work out harder to not show so much skin that hangs below the arms and thighs.

I never thought ti could look and feel this great and it shows every step that I take and move that I make. I am even more happy that I had the lap band with the plication.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

My 12 year old daughter told her Mom the other night, "Daddy is always happy now, not like before his surgery". You want to know why? for the first time in my life as far as my weight is concerned, I have hope. The band has done that for me.

I would do it all over again. I miss the taste of a lot of foods. I loved stake and now have to settle with simply tasting the juice from one. But it was those things that kept me fat and trapped in a body I never wanted.

So It aint all that bad !

Yes, talked with the surgical nurse they are notifying my insurance company to get approval for an "urgent removal" even though I still am not having any problems, if fact I feel as if I am at my sweet spot. Go figure. Then have to have 3 months of weight management with my primary then back in for bypass.

It has been over 5 years since my surgery. Ive had some ups and downs but in my head not real success. I think I didnt have in place at the time as strong a support network as I thought or needed. From the Dr charging to go to support meetings to me just not enjoying structured exercise (I have done 4 triathlons 3 since banding).

I have learned that my weight issues are so much more then what the band can handle. Sigh

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
