Recommended Posts

i recently had an unfill of 0.3 cc. i had a total of 2.2 cc in my 10 cc band. well, my tiny unfill has made a HUGE difference... too much of a good difference.!!! now i can eat whatever i want - no restriciton!!!! i called my dr's nurse and made an appt to have a small adjustment this coming tuesday. i'm sooooo scared of gaining any weight back..... and i didnt want to wait until next month to 'fix' it..... i know i can eat too much.. we went out to eat and i ate...... (hangs head in shame and guilt.....) two crunchy tacos, side of rice and hadfull of chips/salsa!!!!! OMG - i could NEVER eat that much before.... i cant' wait until i find my elusive green zone!! i'm still trying to follow my portion sizes, and not drinking w/meals - but i'm really excited to have some restriction again!!!!!

You need to realize the band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating anything. While some people do a reach a point they can't eat most people can "eat and eat". This is why it will always be your job to control your food intake, not your band. If you're expecting your band to stop you from eating too much then you're at risk of ending up too tight again. This is why it's so important to stick to band sized portions, too.

The band is meant to allow you to be satisfied on less food for longer periods of time- not stop you from eating.

Have a look at this link by Dr. Simpson, I think it will help you considerably: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Best wishes

mis73 - thanks for your reply. i do understand how the band works, but i am able to eat more thank i could before. i am not getting full on my small portions, and i find that i am still looking for something else to eat. i've never had an unfill before - and just havent' found my green zone. hopefully that is coming soon. thanks again for your reply - my concern is w/the amount of food i am able to eat now.... ;(

You may be able to eat that much because your eating too fast. If you were still following the rules of small bites, chewing, and eating slowly it would have taken you over an hour to eat all that. This is how you eat around the band! If you test the band like this to often you could risk doing damage. Even when we CAN eat like that doesn't mean we should! You still need to follow the rules until you can get another fill. I hope you find restriction with your next visit!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
