Question and/or Advice

Recommended Posts

10 months and 3 fills into this, have lost 70lbs. I have my next follow up appt on Tues 4/2, but this past Wed 3/27 I was eating lunch and not paying attention and got "stuck". It came back up and has felt like something stuck ever since. I can barely eat, I can drink some but not alot at a time. Now I have been dealing with alot of emotions and stress this week. We were just told that my mother in law is terminal. My husband is in charge of her medical needs and I am really close to her. I have been reading that in times of stress this can happen. My question is should I call the doctor sooner or can this wait until Tuesday. I do have a call into them but want to know if anyone else has had this happen. All was good then all of a sudden not! I get so hungry but so afraid to eat don't like the pain from being "stuck" and that's after one bite doesn't matter what it is or how soft.

First, I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I would go on liquids for 24 hours to let your stomach calm from the stuck episode. Once it's irritated, it often needs a food break so you can eat and feel normal again.

If you are still having problems, you may want to talk to your doctor about a slight unfill. Stress can cause the band to feel tighter for some people, so perhaps you might need a little removed temporarily until you get through this rough patch in your life.

Hang in there.

Thank you I will try just liquids without attempting any solid for a day. Praying for relief!

No personal experience, but my LB Nurse said that hers tightens under a lot of stress. Fact is she had it emptied during RN school because it was so stressful.

I had this same thing happen to me during a stressful time. I went a week with the "stuck" feeling because I did not want to take the time to go to the doctor. (Very bad!) I finally called my doc and he advised me to go on liquids for 3 days. I did this and I was still a little too tight so I went in and had a slight unfill. Now everything is fine.

Sending you prayers.

Taking it one day at a time.

I called Dr going Monday for an unfill but may or may not need. I did liquids for 24 hrs and starting with soft foods things are going good will continue gradual introduction and see how it goes by Monday, either way it's my check up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
