hely88 883 Posted March 29, 2013 I was just wondering how many of you use quinoa instead of rice? It is a gluten free grain that contains some Protein.< /p> 1 A New New Dawn reacted to this
Baba Wawa 543 Posted March 29, 2013 Our family has eaten quinoa for years. I toast it in a tiny bit of oil, add broth (1c quinoa:2 c broth), cover, cook 15 min on med heat and serve with a dollop of ff Greek yogurt as a side dish. I've made muffin cups with it, eggs, chicken Italian sausage, broccoli and cheese. They end up being about 15 gr Protein each. There are tons of recipes on Pinterest. 3 hely88, Scorpio Girl and JACKIEO85 reacted to this
blondegal_ 1,028 Posted March 29, 2013 I use it to replace rice sometimes. But I'm just starting out so I'm counting calories so I limit my amount of it. Calorie wise it's kinda high just like rice and pastas. So even though it's healthier I still only have 1/4 cup of it after my Protein.< /p> 1 hely88 reacted to this
tiggergramma 129 Posted March 29, 2013 I switched us over to mostly quinoa several years ago. There are some things that only rice will go with, but if we are going to have a starch, it will almost always be quinoa. 2 A New New Dawn and hely88 reacted to this

A New New Dawn 1,695 Posted March 29, 2013 I love it, as do my kids. It has so much great nutritional value. I make it with vegetable broth, black Beans, cilantro, and crushed red pepper.. 2 hely88 and warm33 reacted to this

forensic6 89 Posted March 30, 2013 Is it not something you get stuck on easily? 1 B-52 reacted to this
hely88 883 Posted March 30, 2013 I have never gotten stuck from quinoa. It is much smaller then rice.
tiggergramma 129 Posted March 31, 2013 Quinoa is smaller than rice and does not clump up like rice does. It feels more like cous cous, if you have ever had that.
A New New Dawn 1,695 Posted March 31, 2013 I haven't gotten stuck either since they are so small. Technically, it is a seed used like a grain and here is some info about it's nutritional value .... http://chetday.com/quinoa.html and here's a recipe my family loves, you can omit the corn if so desired http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Quinoa-and-Black-Beans/
forensic6 89 Posted April 1, 2013 Guys, thanks for all of the great responses--I had previously told my wife that I couldn't eat anything like this but wow--what a great alternative to rice! Thanks!
