We live five hours from doctors, hubby thinking of removing stitches on Sunday (10 days post op) I am not sure if to let him or not.

So what your saying, is you're not going in for post-op visit?

Most of us see our Surgeon 2 wks post op.

Also most of us have had desolving stitches.

Don't think I would let him, unless he is a Dr. IMHO

I would not let my husband take out my stiches... make the trip to your doc.. I did not have any stiches but I went back for my post op check and they removed the steri strips.. how are you going to get your fills if you live so far away from your Doc>?

I can't imagine allowing anyone but medical personnel to remove my stitches. That said, I, also, had dissolving stitches, inside. I came home with steri-strips only on the outside. I was not to remove them, they were supposed to fall off by themselves. I would contact my local doctor's to see if that office would remove the stitches for me if I did not want to drive 5 hours. Best wishes, Karen

Thanks all, we changed the dressing for the last Time today and going to make the visit and let medical staff remove them. Come this far real good so don't want to slip now.

Hmmm...I'm pretty brave with home remedies myself but this sounds like a not so good idea. You don't want your incisions to get infected, especially your port incision, and just like the others i'm suprised to hear you have traditional stiches over your wounds. If you can't make it back to your surgeon just yet, at least go to your local primary care doc and have them do it. It's too early to have complications!!

Good luck!

Having been in medical fields all my adult life, I wouldn't have a problem with having my husband remove my stitches if I couldn't do it myself. My concern would more be the followup visit to your doctor. I think it is important. However, more concerning is in this day and age your surgeon used external sutures that have to be removed...and I have to echo a concern above...you are going to have to make that trip monthly? I drive 45 minutes to my surgeon's office monthly, and the months that he determines I do not need a fill are always kind of a drag because I feel like I made the trip for nothing more than a pat on the back from him. Of course, I will continue to make those trips because I need the contact with him.

Good luck with your journey, and give your hubs a peck on the cheek for being willing to help!

My husband has been an absolute star and he is with me every step of the way from the money it has cost to changing bandages and walking with me. I am a very lucky lady!!!!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
