Watched Biggest Loser, Can I do this myself?

Recommended Posts

I'm confused ! I just watched how these contestants have lost 120, 150 lbs plus. I know they had help but now wondering if I could do it myself? I'm wondering do I want to live a life with the band having to purée my good all the time. What is going on with me? I'm already on my path . I only have 2 more visits before my preop. Surgery is in June ! I dream about my first 15 lbs over and over !! Please need insight

Please don't confuse reality TV with reality! I have lost hundreds of pounds, and gained back even more. I had the band because I can't lose and keep the weight off.

Don't forget they have the luxury to work out like 8 hours a day and do you ever watch the "after" the Biggest Loser shows? Not trying to be a downer, but it's hard on your body to lose it as fast as they do and you don't learn for the long term on how to actually eat and keep it off. And I'm not sure what you mean by pureeing your food forever with the band, you make sure you chew well, but eat solids. If you aren't ready for this, don't do it. But personally I needed my own reminder on a long term basis to keep the weight off, not just lose and gain like I've done all my life. You can do this if you want it bad enough.

Only you can answer your question. Can you? Can you lose all the weight you need to and keep it off? If you could, then why haven't you already?

I don't ask that in a harsh way but rather to make you think- if you honestly believed you could do it on your own, you would've long before now. No one gets to the point of considering WLS without trying absolutely everything else first.

I have lost 200 pounds so far and couldn't be happier. Could I have lost it without the band? Yes, I could've. Could I do it without being starving and miserable? Nope. Could I keep it off without the band? No way. I need my band.

Actually, yes you can lose it all by yourself. Of course, you'll have to hire Jillian Michaels, invest in thousands of dollars worth of exercise equipment, employ a full time chef or two and oh yeah, quit your job and the rest of what life you may have right now to dedicate yourself to this effort. And to keep it off, you'll have to do this for the rest of your life. Yeah, no problem.

Everyone wrote the truth. Biggest loser is at least 8 hours of working out 6-7 days a week. Cameras watch what you do and eat. I could never do that. I have failed every diet and the band is the best thing I have done for me and my family Good luck with your choice

I sure could NOT! I tried every diet/drug/program/clinic out there and failed every time. I owe my life to my band.

Good Luck to whatever path you take!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
