Fluid build up around port?

Recommended Posts

Went to my band Dr. today I told him that the last week to week and a half I've been feeling a hard part under my incision and its been super sore. I figured I started working out to soon but my doctor said that it could of been Fluid build up around my port?(it's going away now) Has anyone ever heard of that? And has anyone went to go get a fill and your band/port was doing "push back" where it didn't let all of the fluid in that the dr was going to put in? My doc said that was totally normal.

If he didn't seem concerned and it's going away, I wouldn't worry about it either. You probably just bumped it just right and had a small amount of swelling/internal bruising.

So i just googled "fliud around port" and a thread from this site poped up from Bafranco having the same issue and they called it a "seroma"(which is what my dr called it also but i forgot the word) and sometimes they drain on their own and i think thats what happend to me because it felt like a small nectorine near my port and everyone that posted on there with the same issuse was only around 2 months post op. They just drain it 3 or 4 times till it goes away.. mines definitely gone down..

Yup, that is what happens when tissue/muscle is injured. It releases a lot of Fluid. Usually your body just reabsorbs it and they never realize it, but sometimes a build up or seroma forms. Even if you don't drain it will eventually be reabsorbed, but draining decreases discomfort and risk of infection.

Just an FYI, that is why after some surgeries (like tummy tucks) doctors will put in temporary drains so that Fluid has a place to exit the body.

You're fine :)

Did your doctor say you could lift weights? He would know what's best.

Personally, I wouldn't do any lifting or do anything that strained your abdominals until the seroma is gone. I wouldn't want to risk making it worse or prolonging it. But again, I'm not a doctor and that's just what I would do.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
