I am 6 weeks out today and I have lost 23 pounds. I was told by the dietician that this is more than normal, she said the average is 10 pounds

The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing, not losing. Weight loss generally comes once you're back on a regular diet and can eat regular foods. So, don't be discouraged if you don't lose right away.

During thAt time i lost 10 lbs or so, not too much, but i wasnt really concerned about it. The first couple weeks after surgery ate for healing not losing.

I am almost 4 weeks post op, I have lost 11, but the last 2 weeks have pretty much been a stand still since i starting back on regular food, but my nutritionist said it would happen and that i shouldn't count on loosing much at all and its even normal to gain some back.

I am new at this and had my surgery Feb 15, 2013 and have lost only 12lbs, I had a fill on my 4 week visit. I am a little discouraged cause I have not lost anything more. I go back to the Dr. on April 18th and would like to be down about 10lbs to show progress. I feel as if I am doing something wrong or missing something here. I am in the Jacksonville FL area so if there is anyone that wants to be buddies I am open to that as well.

Thank you to all that reply.

I was banded 2/21 at 287lbs. My first fill was scheduled 3/21, 4 weeks later, and I was 274, so I lost 13lbs. I did not get a fill because I had no appetite or desire to eat. Had a check up this morning (4/3) and now 269lbs, so 5lbs in two weeks. Doc was impressed and said that is excellent. Sounded low to me (I want it all gone now lol), but 2.5lbs a week is good. I did get a fill, up to 6cc.

Next check is in 2 weeks, my goal is to beat 5lbs!

OK take it from me (6 DAYS post op) you can never NEVER guess how your body's going to react to all the recent change lol I have lost as of today 11.2 pounds!! What?! Crazyness. Now I'm sure I will slow down now that my body's feeling better and awake but still even if I got threw my first 4 weeks and only lost 11 pounds I'd be happy because I wasn't trying. I simply wanted my Body to heal and I provided it doctor recommended high Protein foods (pour off the spoon/purees) and it just so happened to drop some which is good. I think whether you gain, lose, or maintain in the first few weeks its just your body getting acclimated to its new best friend aka the band haha. I hope you all have good luck....can't wait to see your progress down the line. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
