Has anyone else experienced this?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded a little over 6 weeks, received my first fill on Monday of 3cc in my 10cc band, I was told to do liquids the rest of the day on Monday and Tues and that I could eat mushies for dinner on Tues night. Well I woke up this morning and my stomach felt like it was almost kinked and that when I stretched out it was painful, I called my surgeons office and spoke to a nurse and she said to go back to liquids (I already figured that much) and that I probably didn't chew good enough, or took to big of a bite and that now that food was sitting on top of my band and having a harder time digesting, she recommended lots of hot liquid, I drank tea all day and I feel 95% better and dont plan on starting mushies tomorrow unless I feel back to normal and then I will take it super easy! My question is has anyone ever felt this before, its really a strange sensation to explain but hopefully I am not the only one who has experienced this.

What you are feeling is probably normal. I find that my head messes with me as much as my band does. You are super sensitive to every new feeling and therefore you question it. Stay on liquids and slowly try mushies as you get hungry, eat small bits very slowly and see how you do. Be sure to keep in contact with you doctors office. You might have gotten too much of a fill to start with.

Good luck to you, it will get easier as you learn the new feelings & signals from your band. :)

I've never had that, but I would say that you had too much of a fill. My doctors office has never done more than .8 cc at a time. They usually will only do .2 to .6 usually. I know 3 cc does not seem like much but its actually a lot. I currently only have 2 cc in my band. Granted, how much is in your band compared to another person doesn't matter. You just need to find what works for you.

If you ate close to going to bed sometimes things will not pass through the band as well. You are probably fine, but do call your doctor if it continues. Everyone is different and you may need a slight unfill.

Thanks Guys!

I am feeling better, I woke up feeling "normal" and then ate mushies all day today and so far feeling great, I think I just had something stuck above the band like my Nurse thought...Guess I had my first not so pleasant Lap Band experience but I have learned from it! You live and learn right?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
