When I first had my Lap Band Surgery I remember being told not to eat popcorn. Does anyone know if you can have popcorn after you have been banded for over a year. I would like some every now and then.

My wife eats popcorn, in moderation. She has been banded for over a year. It is just probably up to you and what your band will tolerate food wise.

Nutritionally I would say that you shouldn't snack based upon what I have been told in my post-op care and weight loss materials I have been given. But you can make room for the calories if you just have to have it once in a while.

I hope that kinda helps you.

popcorn is definately a slider for me. Ice cream isn't (I can only eat 1 scoop) but I can eat a whole tub of popcorn at the movies!!! I do occasionally eat it tho for a treat.

Maybe it's the fibrous part of it that they don't reccommend? My dr never said anything about it, so I assumed it was ok in moderation.

I eat popcorn frequently. It is a slider food for me. I do make my own from kernels and I top it with a small amount of real butter. I do factor the calories into my day. Popcorn is a healthy dose of natural Fiber and it really helps in the bathroom, if you are having issues.

I eat a small amount of home popped with real butter. Chew Chew Chew and I am ok with it. The puffed corn is an idea occasionally. I try not to do this much because I am eating whole foods without additives and preservatives as much as possible. I only eat one or two nuts at a time and chew chew chew. Small servings are key for me personally.

I think the issue with popcorn is the hulls getting stuck and collecting above the band. I do eat popcorn too. I make it myself and use hull-less popcorn when I can get it. Otherwise, I use regular popcorn and chew the crap out of it!

Thanks! I like the single serve 100 calorie microwave popcorn. When I am watching a movie with my daughter. Just haven't had any lately.

Hi there. For the first year I could eat popcorn it was a slider. HOWEVER i had some again a few months back. It was horrible i got stuck worse than i have in a long time.

I vomited an it felt like tiny knives coming back up. It last for hours.

I will never have popcorn again.

However i can eat all the icecream in the world SO i only treat myself once in a great while.

My doctor said no popcorn. I recently discovered edemame. I pop them out of the pod so they take a while to eat and they have around 168 calories and 13 Protein. Such a healthy snack I such a small package. I never make it through an entire serving.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
