When I was diagnosed with a slip that would require surgery, I went under with three possible options: 1) that the band would be restitched, 2) that the band would be removed, 3) that the band would be restitched with plication. I was lucky and had the band restitched with plication.

The only thing I know for sure, I don't want to ever have to try to maintain my weight without a surgical tool of one sort or another. If I had had my band removed, I would have gone through the necessary healing process and then had the sleeve!! Never again do I want to have to do this on my own!!

Ok forgive my ignorance. I haven't had mine yet just waiting for insurance approval them I'm good to go. I'm reading all these threads just trying to educate myself more.

So why did they have to remove it? Couldn't they just readjust it?

I am sorry though and wish u the best :-)

Thats good to hear, that you had the plication added for your replacement surgery. I'm debating whether or not to get my band replaced (it's had a minimal slip for 10 mths now) or to suffer with a broken band that doesn't work correctly, but I have no more symptoms. I'd like to have plication added, since it wasn't available in 2009.

Nice to know that they do this now.

So sorry best wishes for a speedy recovery. May i ask how you knew your band had slipped? What were your symptoms? What do you and your doc think caused the slippage?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
