First post-op appointment...

Recommended Posts

Okay, first off. I weighed in at 277lbs in my first consultation visit for getting the lap-band back in February. My pre-op weight was recorded as 256lbs on 03/20/2013. Today I stand at an official 243lbs. So that's where all those calories went that I didn't eat... Lol

I had hernia repair during the lap-band placement. Apparently it was a considerable sized hernia. Took 2 stitches to close it up, got a pic if anyone wants to see... Haha

So, I went from big gaping g hole around my esophagus to a nice tight form fitting hole and a band. Most of you know I have been having problems with pills, and various other things, even bigger gulps of Water have ended up PB'd. So I got 2cc more taken out so the hernia can heal and I can get some sort of comfort instead of feeling everything back up.

I feel better already, the only drawback is the hunger. I am in sliders still for post-op diet and little or no restriction on the band. Jello just isn't cutting the hunger, may have to go to more substance.

BTW that puts me at 8lbs from losing 100lbs from my heaviest of 335lbs.

Also, my pants are too loose and try to fall off. They fit kinda tight before the pre-op diet.

I would do that but I am diabetic and have to watch the sugar and dairy intake, dairy has lactose which is another sugar that doesn't usually get listed in with the "sugars" nutrition category on the labels.

Thanks everyone, my wife is looking at me every day and getting pissed... Lol, it's in a good way

Keep up the great work and take advantage of that first year after surgery!

Yeah, no kidding my wife is banded and has had it for a year, so her year of aftercare that "came with" the surgery ran out. It's going to cost $240 for 6 visits. So I am thinking the year of aftercare is pretty much invaluable!

I feel so much better now that I can eat per the rules of being banded without having problems. I can even take pills(quartered) now, which I couldn't before the last appointment.

Moving on to soft foods today. Sorry to say, this liquid fuel is for the birds though. Blood sugar has been stable in the 100-130 range without metformin, my Dr. told me to take it at night to combat the liver producing too much glucose while sleeping. This will aid in weight loss.

This is a truly different experience. I am so happy I made the decision to save my life and become a healthier person!!

Yup, that's the stage I am in right now and less than 1/2 cup eaten has kept me satisfied for almost 3 hours and still going!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
