Recommended Posts

:help: Getting ready, nervous and excited. Date for Lap Band is May 12, 2006. Just completed my pre admission testing yesterday at the hospital. Im hoping I'm making the best decision for myself.....wonder at times if its just my nerves that I get the feeling maybe I shouldn't do it. Will I miss not being able to eat whatever I want...possibly. Will I be able to handle the liquid week...:paranoid It's amazing, I can at times go hours, without eating and go hmm...I forgot to eat ...however tell me I CANT:lock1: .....you would think I haven't eaten in weeks the way I look to eat. :hungry:

Was anyone else nervous as the date was creaping up on you.??

I'm excited, then I panic alittle.... Whats the longest someone was out of work after procedure....I'm on my feet all day 8 hours, so I might stay home alittle bit till I feel up to it... We'll see...

Hi 4MYFuture,

I can certainly relate to our situation. I will be banded on May 1--7 days from now. Although I am pretty excited, I share the same fears and anxieties you have. Will I be hungry the first few weeks? If so, how will I handle it?

My husband says I have been a bit grumpy and a bit preoccupied since starting the prediet a month ago. If he thinks I'm grumpy now, what will I be like postsurgery?

Well, I guess we will both find out the answers to our questions soon enough!

Where will you be getting your band done. I'm in Idaho and am one of the fortunate ones who's insurance covers the procedure.

Good luck!!!!!!

Linda

Heh, I had mood swings & panic attacks galore during the pre-op diet. And post-op I had buyer's remorse in a big way... but at 10 weeks out now, I'm thrilled & would do it again in a heatbeat.

Ok, yeah, I'm still angry about the modifications to my diet, but I'm working through it and REALLY want to be happy to be eating less. I have some control issues, lol.

For the liquid period, variety helps... and always have something ready to drink quickly. And then focus on getting through it... it's something that just has to be endured. You DO make it to the other side, though, and it's worth it!!

Congrats on your date!!

Couldn't have said it better myself.... this is exactly how I was/am! I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but yes the emotional rollercoaster was running at full speed there for a while. Every now and then it comes back to take me for a ride... mostly when I get done mowing the yard or something and go directly to the fridge to grab a diet coke and then think ah geez! can't have that!... then I get mad, then I get a crystal light and all is well again :-).

Thank all for replying....

Linda - thats exactly what keeps running thru my head, can I handle it... will my moods get the best of me. I'm having my procedure in New Jersey. Keep me posted!

Janet - Thanks, I was glad to get my date!! OMG, buyers remorse, do I know that feeling so well. I'm kinda scared I'm gonna have that with this too. It's the excitement, and then the unknown is what brings me down.

Kim - Thats where I can relate, I'll go to grab a drink, food etc...and get so moody, POOP I can't have that......

I have such positive feelings as well, don't get me wrong, I went to two seminars prior to a consultation. Mainly been reading alot on here, and just seeing what other people have to say to get a better grip of it all.

I know its not an easy option, and I have to change to a healthier lifestyle and this is just a tool to help. Its the unknown, I still feel like, do I know what the heck I'm doing...then panic, I better shop now to make sure I have liquids in..etc... I know I sound crazy!

I'm not on any pre-op diet...he never mentioned it to me??? Wonder if I should call, Whats that all about? Is it liquids too?

Thank you all for your support and input I really appreciate it.

4MF-

You can handle it! I can too! We just need to keep the long term goal in mind and remember that the discomfort we feel after the surgery will ultimately help get us to that goal.

I havent even started the process, and Im nervous!! But I know it is all worth it in the end! I can't even imagine how happy I will be when I can fit into a size 18 even, let alone a size 12! And knowing all my hereditary health problems will be out of view! No worrying about Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, and maybe my thyroid will catch back up and work a little more so I can stop doing all the medications!!

Thats the way I think of it, no matter how hard it will get I always think In the end I will be so happy I did this for myself! And i cant wait to here how everything goes for you you can do it!!! just think after the first few weeks you wont be so grumpy anymore!!! be positive and everything will come out wonderful!

Thank you, thank you...I will let you know how everything goes.

I can't wait to fit into smaller sizes too. Plus to start living and stop just existing!! I want to be healthy, avoid heart problems as well, I'm currently taking thyroid medicine now...Im hoping for the day I can stop.

No matter how hard it gets, your right, finally I can be happier with myself. I'll make it thru the grumpy times...Maybe I should appologize NOW to those around me supporting me, incase I bite there heads off!! :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
