Hi all,

I've been lurking for a few weeks but need a little support! Surgery is tomorrow, and I'm actually not nervous. Just a little anxious about the few days after. I know a couple people (in person) who have gone through this but it's so nice to know there have been so many through this.

Thanks for all the support, and I'll keep you posted!

So surgery was Thursday (28th) and today is the first day I feel normal, lol. I had major gas pains n my shoulder which made it really uncomfortable to sleep. I gave in and took the prescribed pain meccand a sleeping pill and found a reasonably comfortable position to sleep in. I slept! And, I woke up without the shoulder pain. My abdomen is slightly sore but what I expected. Really hope the gas pains are gone for good!

I personally haven't been very hungry. Today is the first day I've noticed it. 4 days post-op and I've been having the low carb Slim Fast shakes (dr approved); each one has 20g of Protein. Also Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding with protein mixed in. I think it will get harder but I have to use mind over matter. In about a week I can start adding soft foods so I just have to focus on that!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
