fill or no fill

Recommended Posts

I haven't lost any weight recently....a couple of months. I just found out through my 6 month blood work that my vitimains are all screwed up. My primary care doc increased my thyroid medicine too. I can eat quite a bit of food, even when I'm not drinking with my meal. I'm getting much better at that. I can even eat bread if I do it slowly and after 10 am. I can pretty mcuh eat anything if I chew well after 10 am.

I dont' know if I should get a fill though, because I'm not sure I'm always making the best food choices. Yesterday I had a whole freaking slice of cake....it went down fine btw...and that was after lasagana. Now typically I don't eat that way daily...it was a dinner that our girl scouts did for us leaders. For instance...this is what I've ate today.

Breakfast 930 am - fruit parfiat yogurt from McDonalds

lunch 1:00 pm- 3-4 oz of rotiserie chicken (with gravey), and mashed potatoes, 1 piece of daughters california roll

snack around 3pm- handful of daughters micowave smart popcorn

snack- around 3 pm too a large mindless handful of jelly Beans (i dont even like jelly beans...so don't get this)

dinner7 30pm - salad, with tomatoes, and onions and about 2 oz of porkchip

small chocolate bunny thing around 3 pm with the popcorn and jelly beans(I wanted to prentend I didn't eat this right after i did)

I've drank about 4 glasses of Water, a 20ox propel, and unsweet biggy tea from mcdonalds.

I did drink with my yogurt this morning, but not with my lunch and dinner.

As far as exercise goes, I was working out more before I actually started working for the Y. I'm only geting in about 3 hours a week now probally.

Do I need another fill or am I just living in la la land and need to wake up out of my daze and try even harder? Be honest...I know I ate crap today...and yesterday...so maybe I dont' deserve a fill?????

I'm seriously starting to worry that I'm never going to make it to goal or even below 200.

Don't deserve a fill? Oh my gosh. Don't do that to yourself.

I'm no expert but, it looks like you had a fill in early Februarly and now it's late April; you haven't lost any weight for a few weeks; a whole piece of cake on top of lasagna. Honestly it sounds like you're ready for a fill to me.

Stop beating yourself up. Of course you deserve a fill. You deserve to achieve the weight loss you've worked so hard for. Start making your band work a little harder. Not a lot, just a little. When you've got more restriction you'll start losing weight which will help to keep you motivated to make good choices.

You can do this and you don't have to live up to some ideal to deserve it either!

I guess I unconciously was thinking "deserve" didn't even realize that I had worded it that way really. I'm going to be honest with the nutritionist and let her know I haven't been the best bandster, but my will power and motivation seem to be lagging heavily right now. Got alot of stress happening so maybe that factors in, but I need more help from my buddy I think. Don't know why I'm so afraid to ask the nutrionist about it....I'm sure I'm not the only person that hasn't been the model bandster. I just didn't want that person to be me. I've said this before, its alot easier to have willpower when you are loosing weight. I'm afraid I've actually gained about 3lbs since I last saw her a month ago, so I feel like I'm going to confession or something.

Hey Melissa, go to the Fills Forum and check out the Sticky titled "Fills Info" started by Penni. She posted a link to a very helpful site that helps you decide if you need a fill, or if you just need to get your head back on track. I think you probably need a small fill, but if your blood levels are off, that might very well account for some of your weight stall, and maybe you should get that straightened out first? Anyhow, check out that link on Penni's thread (lapbandtransformation something or other .com) and see what it says. You might can print that page and take it with you to "confession" LOL with the nutritionist. let us know!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
