What reason are you taking it? I was taking it for PCOS and I was able to stop that and the high blood pressure pills 1 month after surgery. I was so thank ful.

my doc told me that i should not take metformin, hopefully your blood sugars will subside and you wont need it, i had a friend whose doctor gave it to her for weight loss, all it did was give her diahhrea and neausea...wont be wanting to experience that after surgery

I took metformin until I was banded and it never helped me with my weight. Since it is so big my doc switched me to glimepiride after surgery as it is a smaller pill and I can swallow it whole.

I am n metformin and my specialist has recommended that even tho I'm losing wright and my blood sugars are stable at 5 I should stay on a small des for life. She says there is good research to show it keeps the beta cells awake which help you lose weight and protect your heart. I cut them in half and take them with tea and have had no problems .

I was banded 4 plus years ago, was able to off meds after 3 months. I was just put back on because my A1C is back high. I have gone from 246 lbs to now I sit at 135-140, guess that part only corrected its self for a short while. I am on metformin and have a hard time with the pills. 2000 a day.

Have not taken metformin for 5 years and get my blood tested once or twice a year and so far my A1C is normal.

Do not miss taken meds.

I take metformin for type 2 diabetes that I managed just fine with diet and exercise until my sleeve revision wreaked havoc with my blood glucose. I don't think the metformin is affecting my weight up or down. I'd love to stop taking it, preferably sooner rather than later. One of my weight loss goals was to reduce the amount of meds I have to take each day, and it's very frustrating to now be on more meds than I was with my long-lost band.

I too take Metformin for blood sugar issues, not 'weight loss' as such.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
