Not new to Banding but new to here

I'm 42, married and have two kids. One is gone to university and the other has two years of high school left. Been married 21 years. I'm in the Canadian Army and am in my 24th year. I love what I do, and can't think of doing anything else...plan to work until I'm 50ish, then should be in a good position to call it quits. I am trained to fix army kit, concentrating on electronics, however I'm more supervisory these days. I love life and leisure. I don't need a bunch of people or friends, as I believe in quality, not quantity... My wife is my best friend and I wouldn't have it any other way. We love vacationing together, and spending time with our kids, but we do realize they are growing up, and want lives of their own. I like to work out and get sweaty, spend time in the sun, read, walk, jog, listen to music and watch movies. My band journey started in Feb 2010 when a coworker told me his story of how he lost a bunch of weight and planted the idea in my head. After some consults and preop I was on the table on June 22nd 2010. My starting weight was 265. It's been good for me. At first the weight tumbled off but things have slowed significantly. I'm good with it. I can eat almost anything as long as i take my time.. i've had refux issues am on Pantaloc to help with that. of my 10cc band im roughly at 9.25 cc's and that isvthe max i can go without the reflux giving me severe issues. i still Get the occasional blockage and i know my slider foods. im trying to maintain a plateau right now so im trying to live as "normal" as possible. The band has certainly helped with my key issue of overeating and gorging, the rest is up to me to pick better choices. you dont change 39 years of bad habits in 3... it takes time, and as long as the numbers are in my favor, its all good. I'm in the best shape of my life, healthy and plan to live a long time.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
