A co-worker of mine, who prior to my surgery was all about helping me along. She was a successful bander who wanted to take me under her wing. Post-op she changed. Negitive nelly, if you will. She is 3 years post of and has lost 70 lbs. I have no idea what she weighs, she looks nice, not tiny but healthy.

She ask me today how much I'd lost. I told her 50+ lbs in 9 months. Rather than saying good job she snickered. She ask how much more I wanted to lose, I said around 50.

She plain out said I would never be able to do it with the band and I should have had gastric bypass. If I needed to loose 100 lbs then my doctor never should have done the band. She keeps telling me that I had more to loose than she did. I have never told her my numbers so how the hell does she know.

I am sorry, but that is just a b#$%3 thing to say.

While my weight loss has slowed, why is it impossible to lose all of my excess body weight? I don't know if I will get that small, but I would at least like to make to the 150's.

If you are going to be negitive and discouraging keep it to yourself!

Right on! I purposefully look around here for the POSITIVE posts and try to avoid the negative. I haven't told too many people about the band, but I reached out to a friend who has been banded 3 years and she is so positive. Gosh I hope that doesn't change. And, she (my friend) has lost over 100 pounds. So there :-)

There are averages, and then there is you.

My Dr. told me what the average person looses, but then pointed to his nurse who lost all of her excess weight (Over 100 pounds), and said you decide which category you want to be in. There is no doubt in my mind where I will end up, I am a lot of things, but average has never been one of them!

The problem is that the people who are happy to see you succeed when they have failed, are rare and valuable treasures.

As part of you weight loss consider cutting out toxic people also.

Anyone talking to you like that, no matter what the background, is toxic and does not need to be in your life.

Be proud of your accomplishment and forget about the minor annoyances.

You are doing great! Ignore the sore losers. (Pun intended!) You can do whatever you want to do. If your weight lass is slowing double check your portion sizes and log everything. Wishing you your dream success!

How much weight a person can lose with any WLS has more to do with how much the person has to lose than any set amount of weight. The average bandster loses 15pts off their BMI in 3yrs. How much weight that is depends on the person and for every person who doesn't lose those 15 that means another bandster lost more.

Use her negativity as a way to motivate yourself. Turn lemons into lemonade so to speak.

What a very mean person. I see jealously. When asked about how much I have lost and how much more I want to lose, I choose not to share with anyone other than my husband and this wonderful site. I don't tell my wonderful sons or my oldest brother (we are very close). Yes I am very ashamed of how much I did weigh, do weigh and don't share. You do not have to share unless you want to.

Keep your head high and smile.

::sniff sniff:: Do I smell jealousy or is that a competition roar I hear?

Listen, you gf hasn't achieved her goal. Thus, it's easy to tell you it's not possible. Makes her feel good about her 'attempt' and excuse her 'failure'.

I am a firm believer, you can make excuses or you can obtain results. Choose now!

Friends like that WILL sabotage your efforts. Time to shut if off now so you don't accept it as your own truth (aka excuse)

So many people lose over 100 pounds! One very successful woman on this site just lost 200 pounds as of today! Your co-worker may just be intimidated because it has taken her 3 years to do what you have done in less than a year! Probably a little envious! These are the times when you find out the character of those around you! Some are excited for people's successes in life and some find others success as a reflection of their failures! I choose to be inspired by others not intimidated! Don't let anyone get you down! Only you can determine how much you will lose! Congratulations on your success!

I am 65 and dance with a lady who is 84 who kept mentioning my weight she danced in the back row and I dance in the front. We are friends even after she said she couldn't see around me to the teacher to learn the dance. Anyway when it came possible for the band she was supportive and contuines to be. however now that I am 27 lbs away from goal which will be her current weight she is telling I am getting to small jealousy is alive and well at all ages..

Plenty of people have lost 100 pounds and more with the band. Just go for it! I've shared my banding with very few people, just to keep out the negative comments. You really don't have to say anything else to this negative person. Your continued success will say it all!

I have lost 122 pounds in 10 months so its definitely not impossible. I'm now down to 156. Definitely one of the best things I've ever done.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
