sweet cravings!

Recommended Posts

I'm 15 days post op and I'm having a lot of sweet cravings. Pre op I used to be able to squash the cravings with a coffee latte drink but it's not working for me now!

Any ideas ?

Have you tried Choc pudding? Peanut Butter bust mine- love that stuff. Early on I would have cravings for cake or Cookies. To prevent benges I would go buy ONE of a favorites (1 cup cake, one cookie) and eat that one thing and that was it. Most of the time it would satisfy me and I would be fine. Then as I went along, it got so when I would get one of those it didn't even taste good- to sweet, made my belly hurt. So now I don't crave as much as I use to.

SF Popsicles are good. I buy Edy's fruit ones and they are sweet and great. Also, are your Protein Shakes sweet? I once tried freezing mine, it wasn't the best but it was frozen like ice cream.

fruit. Anything sweet and low glycemic is better than high glycemic simple carbs. Cantaloupe, watermelon, apples, pears, blueberries, blackberries and I sometimes munch on Famous Dave's spicy pickle chips. I allow myself one Hershey's or Dove Bliss type dark chocolates in the evening.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will definitely try freezing a chocolate Protein Shake. I will try fruit popsicles also. Just now I had leftover homemade fruit puree (I give my son some mixed in yogurt), it was strawberry &peach, I mixed a packet of stevia in and it was great!

Someone else posted this little sweet recipe. Sliced apples with cinammon nuked for a 15-20 seconds. I'll add a little sweetener to it after its nuked.

When I have a sweet craving, I have a Calcium chew. You can order them from Amazon or get them from any drugstore. One small chew in caramel is enough for me and is low in calories.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
