To weigh or not to weigh?

There are A LOT of opinions on when, if, why, ect about using the scales.< /p>

This is how I am and why....

I feel like I got to my highest recorded weight of 247 by not being aware and ignoring my weight. I never weighed, didn't go to the doctor often so I never really knew what my weight was. When I stepped on the scales in Jan of 2010 and it said 247 it was like being punched in the gut. Yes, I had just had a miscarriage and was carring a lot of Water weight, but that was not excuse. That was getting way to close to 300 for my taste.

I managed to get my weight back down in the 230's that year, and then became complacent again and back up it went. 240's again and that is when I decided to have WLS.

Now, I weight every day. I chart my weight. I am so scared if I stop being aware of my weight that I will become complacent again and start gaining. I know I have the band and all I have to do is follow the doctors instructions and it's suppose to work. But, mentally I have to weigh myself. I have to old myself accountable.

Maybe I drive myself crazy with this. I do weigh at the same time daily with by birthday suit on, so I know any variations flucations in water retention, horomones, bathroom habits, or actual fat gain.

At the start of this journey I would look at the trends. Bascially at the end of every week I was in the negitive- I had trended down even with the ups and down I was still trended down. Now, it fluctuates a lot more, which makes me nervous.

What's your choice when it comes to the scale and why?

I weigh myself ,if I don't keep an eye on it I let it creep up

I weigh myself daily....in the morning before I hop in the shower. I feel that I need to keep a close eye on it. I expect fluctuations but also need to see the downward trend to keep on track.

I do not weigh myself. My only weight-ins are when I go the clinic for a check up (every 2-3 weeks). If I am doing what I am suppose to then the weight will come off, and it is. Its a personal preference. Plus I am early in my journey. Maybe after I reach my goal I will buy a scale and weight myself weekly.

My scale is my belt and my pants. I have a belt that I have to sinch in to the inside most hole... and I cannot wait to punch a new one!

Daily, first thing in the morning, and track it. In fact, I just bought an Aria WiFi scale that automatically logs my weight so I can't cheat. But I also have to track my calories as well. Maybe one day the lifestyle will become automatic, but it isn't now.

I do what you do and for the same reason and I chart it with my surger levels also. I knoiw I weight 4 lbs more when I go to the doctor and that use to upset me until I saw how my body and Water weight works...it give me piece of mind.

I weight every morning. In the past when I ate badly, I ignored the scale for weeks. That is part of the problem. I will weigh every morning from now until I die to ensure I never let myself go again. I like the idea of tracking it as well. I am still in the pre-op stage but it cannot hurt to start now.

I weigh in at my monthly dr follow up appts. Works for me.

Normally i weigh every morning some days it goes up but most days it goes down. When the battery wore out in my scale I procrastinated replacing it for 30 days and gained 30 lbs in the process even though I was still tracking my calories. I have sworn to never let that happen again. I'll admit I do get a little edgy now whenever I travel since I can't bring my scale.< /p>

Daily, multiple times, every hour...just kidding.

I do weigh daily in the a.m. for numerous reasons:

1) to reap an easy positive reward when I do lose (even 0.2 lbs)

2) to directly correlate my previous days diet/habits with a potential gain/loss and know to continue or modify those practices

3) to intervene as early as possible if I see an upward trend

4) to keep me accountable on a daily basis opposed to weekly or monthly

I guess I'm one of the odd ones. I weigh weekly so I don't get frustrated. And, I have worked hard to accept whatever it says, gain or loss. I have to remind myself that the fit of my clothing means just as much as those numbers on the scale.< /p>

I weigh daily and record it on My Fitness Pal. I don't stress about the daily fluctuations anymore, but I do watch the trend. MFP has a 30, 60, and 90 day graph that you can look at and as long as the number is trending generally down, I'm happy.

When I got rid of my scale the last time, I ended up the heaviest in my life.

I'm with LadyDreadHead. I weigh myself once a week so the small fluctuations don't drive me crazy. I do, however, put every meal into Myfitnesspal. That's what keeps me on track as far as counting calories and following the Proteins, carbs, and sodium. Was floored by how much sodium there is in certain foods. It's good for me to know so I can avoid those foods except for once in a while. I knew that Chinese food would be bad sodium-wise, but so are baby back ribs....even if you only eat four of them. When I think of how much sodium I used to consume on a daily basis...well it's no wonder I have hypertension. Oh boy but do I hope to get off those meds one day.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life.       Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
