I went back to work this week. My surgery was 3/12. It went very good and I had been doing very well at home. This week was awful. I had only told a select amount of people about the surgery for obvious reasons.

Well, I am a float nurse and I float throughout our specialty offices. This week I went to a new area to orient. My manager figured being post op this would be easier on me. Well, it was "duty wise" but "food wise"..ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! WORST WEEK EVER! I am still on full liquids so that makes it hard. The first day there someone had brought in some type of chips and dip (it smelled amazing) of course I didn't eat it, next day they were ordering lunch from Jimmy Johns...Today was the icing on the cake. LITERALLY or cupcake should I say. They had ordered Chinese for lunch, then had chocolate chip Cookies and then someone had brought over chocolate cupcakes with white icing. I did not eat any of it...one of the girls said "What are you on a diet or something??" I just said Yeah.

I am so hungry right now because I am tired of my "full liquid diet" that I sometimes just don't have anything to eat. I know that's not the right thing to do but I'm tired of all the sweet liquids chocolate/vanilla Protein Shakes, Jello, pudding, popsicles, crystal light. The only thing "savory" is my strained Soup and I'm only supposed to have that once a day. I have cried like 3-4 times this week. That sounds ridiculous typing it out but it's just hard.

Sorry had to vent somewhere...I'm sure my parents and my boyfriend are tired of me venting and crying :)

First, let me congratulate you for sticking to your liquid diet despite all the temptations. Seriously, you obviously have some major determination and I have no doubt you're going to be very successful with your band.

The emotional crying? It's a lot more common than you realize. Not only is being on a liquid diet downright brutal but there is something in anesthetic that makes people very emotional and even depressed. So, it's no wonder you've had a rough week.

You really are doing incredible. Just remind yourself this post op diet is temporary and soon you'll be healed back on real food.

You can totally do this. Best wishes :)

Don't feel bad about crying. It is a stress relief. I cried because my husband got me the wrong kind of Tomato Soup. Now we laugh about it. You can get through this and you will. I also used to work in the healthcare community. It amazes me how as healthcare professionals we are all telling our patients to be healthy but then we eat stuff drug reps bring us or have pot lucks with bad food in them all the time. Just shake your head at it and think to yourself when your scrubs start falling off your butt you are going to have fun shopping for the new ones.

Always remember, "Nothing taste as good as skinny feels" Something I learned at a ww meeting. I work in a hospital, today they had the entire break room full of Snacks and goodies. I turned around and walked right back out. Then one of my friends/coworkers said," I'll go get you a donut if you want one, I wont tell anyone" I wanted it so bad. I told her no but thanks anyway :( That would only be cheating myself... You made the right choice! Hang in there!!!

You did it.....the week of torture is over and you were stronger than the temptation. Tomorrow will be something else and you can and will be strong enough to say no. Crying is a way to get out that frustration. For me, that next emotion was anger, then resentment for people being inconsiderate. That emotion lessens as well. We are here for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
