Mushies Stage Recipes

Recommended Posts

I love this Soup... I think you could thin it out a bit for full liquid stage, or blend it as is for mushie stage.

2 tbs olive oil

2 leeks, trimmed, halved lengthways, washed and thinly sliced.

3 cloves garlic

1 medium celeriac (about 750grams), trimmed, peeled and roughly chopped

(celeriac is the root of celery plants - its delicious)

1 medium potato, peeled and roughly chopped

6 cups chicken stock

1/3 cup light thickened cream

200grams smoked mackerel fish fillets, skinned, boned and flaked

- that is 7 ounces for the metrically challenged :-) if you can't get smoked mackerel, i have used sardine fillets also delicious.

salt and ground black pepper.

Heat oil in large saucepan. Add leeks and garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until leeks are tender. Add Celeriac and potato and cook for another 5 minutes or until vegetables begin to soften.

Stir in stock, cover and bring to boil. Reduce to low and simmer for 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

Add the smoked fish.

Puree chowder in batches until smooth. Return to saucepan. Add cream. Season with some salt and pepper, and garnish with some parsley and a few flakes of the fish (if not in mushy stage).

I found a great new use for Tostitos creamy spinach dip!

1/4 cup eggbeaters cooked into an omelet

warm 2 tbs creamy spinach dip and cheese of choice in microwave (I love laughing cow garlic and herb) to use as filling

My new favorite breakfast! Would be great with chopped turkey bacon and mushrooms when on solids for added Protein.

I was supposed to get a list of foods for each stage, to include mushies, but never got it. I just started the mushie stage and all I know I can eat are mashed potatoes and smashed peas. Could I get a copy of the list your doctor gave you. I have not seen anything on the interrnet with hamburger on it.

jolaw1, My suggestion is simply to read a little more of this thread! there are some great ideas here, I just scaned pg. 10 and there are some yummy things there, Hamburger is difficult, but if you put in the chopper, should be good, just mix in some beef broth to make it smooth and moist. A little jar gravy on top and away you go!

It's a nondairy whip topping similar to whipped cream. not a airy so it holds up better than whip cream from a can, assuming you have that? it's in a tub in the freezer section of the store. "lite" has less sugar. it's good for the calories involved.

2 tbl sour cream ( also low fat)

mix together and top with cheddar cheese and microwave.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

whey a Minute Puddin'

1/2 C cottage cheese

1/2 C apple sauce

1 scoop Body Fortress vanilla whey Protein

(add any desired spices)

mix together and eat right away or put in fridge

the more the whey powder the 'tighter" the pudding

add a little at a time until desired thickness

this goop or pudding or whatever it may be, can be a great, quick Protein snack and has lots of variations size and taste

it can quell a simple chocolate crave using chocolate whey instead of vanilla or can be used with any flavor of Nector. It can even be something spiced for any holiday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
