Liquid Stage Recipes

I was reading your receipes and they sound great. Since you were banded on 3/18 you are a couple of weeks ahead of me. I was banded 4/2 at Mt. Carmel Dr. Choban. What are you eating right now. It's hard for me to think about blending veg. and chicken up. Any tips?

Ingredients

2 Cans of tomatoes

2 tblsp Tomato puree

1 pint stock (I used chicken, but any will do!)

1/2 white onion

2 small red onions

2 garlic cloves

2 tblsp olive oil

1 tblsp chilli flakes

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a saucepan
  2. Crush the garlic, roughly chop the onions and add both to the saucepan. Sautee until slightly translucent.
  3. Add tomatoes, puree, stock and chilli
  4. Simmer on a medium heat for 20 minutes
  5. Use a hand blender or conventional blender to blend to desired consistency

Serves: Who knows!...all the banded are different :) It makes about 1.5 litres of Soup anyway.

Here's an Egg Drop Soup Recipe I found on allrecipes.com. It's from W.J. Cory

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups chicken broth, divided
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 egg yolk

DIRECTIONS

  1. Reserve 3/4 cup of chicken broth, and pour the rest into a large saucepan. Stir the salt, ginger and chives into the saucepan, and bring to a rolling boil. In a cup or small bowl, stir together the remaining broth and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs and egg yolk together using a fork. Drizzle egg a little at a time from the fork into the boiling broth mixture. Egg should cook immediately. Once the eggs have been dropped, stir in the cornstarch mixture gradually until the soup is the desired consistency.

Oh yeah- I have another couple of ideas..1. sweet potatoe and coconut soup.. Just fry lightly one chopped onion, add three or 4 peeled chopped sweet potatoes and cover with water.. cook till soft and add can of coconut cream or milk (hide a bit of your protien powder in there and blend out the lumps in a blender.. salt and pepper to taste.. yummy!

:tongue2:

2. We have something called 'inocente smoothies' here in UK -Sure you habe something similar (?) and they do kids lunch box ones in tubes like cartons.. Well they freeze into the most amaxing slushies and are full of vvitamins and have about 100 caloreies.. I reckon they are a winner for the summer!!

M x:biggrin2:

Hi,

Not sure if this has been posted before but here you go:

1 tub fat free yogurt

2 packages sugar free Jello

Prepare Jello according to package. When the jello is almost set, add tub of yogurt. Blend with electric beater until well combined. Regfridgerate until set.

It makes sort of a mousse.

Yum!

Jenn

I have to say, after reading thru this thread, I am kind of surprised at some of the things some of you are allowed to have ..or allowing yourselves to have. I guess it all depends on the doctor and nutritionist ..or what you feel you can "get away" with. My nutritionist would pop a vein in her head if she saw some of these recipes ..do you guys ask before making these things? I'm not trying to be a big downer or anything, and to each their own, but after all we go thru for this, I can't see eating some of these things, I don't care how hungry I am. I can liquify a Snickers bar in a blender, but it doesn't mean I should eat it.

On the other hand, some of these recipes sound great and quite healthy and filling.

Pre-op I had to be on a 2 week diet of Optifast shakes and Water, only.

Now, post-op I have to be on clears for 2 weeks ..which consists of Water ..lots and lots of yummy water ..watered down juice and low sodium broth, with the addition of whey Protein Powder.

Then I have to be on 4 weeks of full liquids which adds skim milk and watered down plain yogurt and strained low fat Soups to my diet.

It is harsh and will continue to be harsh, but I have lost over 18 pounds in 18 days and I somehow feel that in having a very strict diet and small list of what I can have, I will have a better chance at success and a nice little kickstart of weightloss to keep me excited about all this yummy yummy water LOL.

-Libby :peace:

I agree with you many of the receipes above are not healthy. Canned Soup is very high in sodium and my doc said you dont want hight sodium

I am very carefull when I cook and watch cardbs, sodium and caloires.

Just be carefull on what you eat

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
