Liquid Stage Recipes

Recommended Posts

Hey!

im on liquids, been on them for a week, and will be on them for two weeks from now, since i just got banded yesterday!!!

Everyone on this board have posted some really wonderful information that's helped me a LOT. Here is a small chance to give a little back!

I had the hardest time with beef broth, and the chicken was also kinda blah...but a friend brought me over a can of "butterball" chicken broth and oh my gosh its just as good as kentucky fried chicken!!! (Butterball also makes Turkeys)

i love it. Im also drinking the kellogs protien Water too and it really does help!

DONT FORGET TEAS TOO! decaffinated are best, get the variety pack and start a routine, like Decaf tea (with a drop of honey) for Breakfast, butterball chicken broth for lunch and Jello for dinner!

another good juice for the inbetween clear and creamy stage is CARROT JUICE heated up for a minute in themicrowave. Its a little heavier than broth but not so much that its creamy. I tolerate this very well and it gives me a 'full' feeling. you can get these in the fresh produce department at the grocery store near the tofu and soybean products.

I was fine until this stage. I think that because im starting to heal that ive started having intense cravings that I KNOW wont do anyone any good..

ive been great on the liquids so far, but now i want a tbone.

I read that someone did a soft boiled egg in the full liquid stage, and while i wouldnt make it a habit, i scrambled one in milk tonight and WOW what a perfect food.

For the record, i cant look at carrot juice anymore. it was a good idea once, but thats all i had in me.

Im cool with creamy Soups, even a little fortified, and my Isopure powder, but i seriously cant wait until i can get a steak.

Heard about this from Dr. Oz on Oprah. It's delicious and keeps you feeling full for a long time!

The Quick Magical Breakfast Blaster

2 servings, 136 calories per serving

1 scoop (1/3 cup) Soy Protein (like Natire's plus Spiru-Tein)

1/2 tablespoon flaxseed oil

1/4 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 large ripe banana (or other fruits of your choice)

1/2 tablespoon apple juice concentrate or honey

1 teaspoon Psyillium seed husks

Peel banana; break into chunks. Put all ingredients in a blender. Add 12 ounces of Water and ice, as well as powdered Vitamins. Cover, blend until fairly smooth.

I haven't been banded yet, but I'm curious as to what are the portion sizes of the liquid diet you folks eat before and after surgery? Also, do you take over the counter supplements or prescribed? :guess

I'm seriously considering doing this and I'm trying to get myself psyched up.

I didn't have to be on a liquid diet before surgery. i didn't have to do anything except schedule it! I think that's because I was self pay and had no insurance co. looking in, and because my Dr. just doesn't require much in advance. After the surgery, there really was no Portion Control. I had to try to drink enough calories a day to get in enough Protein. Same with mushies after that. I started right away on a chewable Vitamin (solotron from GNC or Centrum from the grocery) and chewable Calcium (Vivactin chocolate-yum!) and I'm still on them. I still drink Muscle Milk if I'm not getting in enough protein. It really hasn't been a big deal. What IS a big deal to get psyched up about is that since being banded in November, I've lost an average of 2 pounds a week!

I appreciate the quick reply! How much Protein a day is enough?

That is also different from one clinician to another. But most of what I've read around the net is a minimum of 60 grams a day and many people try to get at least 100 grams to prevent Hair loss.< /p>

I get 65 minimum, and shoot for 100. When I'm doing shakes, I have no probelm getting to 100. I get less when I'm on regular food.

Hey lo2us.... what are your hesitations about the band?

Mainly, I know my insurace won't cover it and we're not in a position at the moment to take out another loan and have another payment. :) (We could, but things would be extremly tight!)

Plus I don't know a whole lot about lapbanding and I've been spying on you guys for the past few weeks to learn more and it's really inspiring! You've inspired me to try and exercise more!!!:clap2:

I'm schedule to attend an seminar next week.:rolleyes

Basically, if a whole pile of money dropped out of the sky on me right now, Lap-band would be the first thing I do!:P

You're smart to gather alot of info first anyway. I thought I did, but I had sooo much to learn. Here's hoping for the pile o' money!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
