Yesterday I went to a St. Pat party and I did not stick to the dietary guidelines I'd set for myself. I didn't break any of my postoperative restrictions but I did graze more than i intended and didn't stick to protien foods. This morning I knew I'd gain but I also know at least personally my biggest motivator to getting back on track was going to be seeing how far off track I went.

I haven't had one of those weeks recently but I did around Christmas. It wasn't pretty, believe me.

However, as disheartening and depressing as it can be, I personally believe when we fall off the wagon isn't the time to avoid the scale. I believe seeing that number increase holds us accountable so we're less likely to make those mistakes again.

Hang in there :)

I put my scale away 3 mts ago and it was not good for me. I got back on it last week and I had gained back 25 of the 50 I had lost. So now my scale is sitting out in the wide open so i have to see it. I have been where your at and have felt that way too, but dont let it RULE you. Pull it out and get back on that wagon. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

The best thing you could do would be to get on the scale. It's a reality check for one thing and the numbers don't lie... So it should be motivation to get back on track.

I avoided the scale for 50 years and it got me to 377 lbs.... Just saying ;)

The scale keeps me focused... I weigh every morning , I believe it either motivates me or makes me mad.. either way I stay on track... sometimes it surprises me.. I had a little birthday cake Sat for my grandaughters birthday and I thought I would gain or surely not lose.. surprise..I lost 1 lb. so the scale has to stay in my bathroom.. probably will be for life now.

Yes, I can relate and feel like that now after having family in town and eating what I have not been normally eating. But, reading the responses above, they are right! We can't hide from the scale. Let's put the scales back and face the music. :)

It does no good to avoid your scale. It is just living in denial. Woman up and own it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
