Post op is making me feel lazy

Recommended Posts

I am going nuts with the restriction on my activity level.

I want to do some light jogging or lift weights but the Dr. was adamant about waiting till at least 6 weeks before trying anything more than walking.

I can even feel he's right I find myself feeling run down and tired after even short walks but it's frustrating I know it's because I'm healing and I'm not taking in as many calories but it feels uncomfortably similar to when a wasn't active and got tired because I was simply out of shape.

I guess part of me is afraid I'll struggle to get back to the activity level I had before the band even though reasonably I should be able to easily surpass it.

That is the difference between drs. Mine wanted me up and at it the day after surgery. I am almost 3 weeks out and walking 2-3 miles a day. I feel great doing it too. I hope you get to start soon. It sure helps you feel better.

Walking is fine but I only have so much time and I'll admit I was just active enough before surgery that I was starting to get a taste of that "running high". I won't say it felt as good as being in the middle of a fight back in my 20s but it was comparable and less likely to cause any lasting injuries.

My doctor okay'd me after 3 weeks. I released my nervous energy by walking on my treadmill. By the time I was released to do more I was able to walk at 4.2 on the treadmill with a 2 incline for 45 minutes. Every day I just stepped up the pace a little more.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
