Post Surgery shopping???

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have been on my pre-op diet since last Thursday. My focus has been on eating Atkins style these last few days. Great news I'm down 10 lbs from my Diet counseling with my Bariatric nurse or 8 from the outpatient surgery pre-op testing last Friday!!!!

Now that I am three days away, I am trying to shop for post op diet (2 days clear and 2 weeks liquids).

My Bariatric Nurse gave me some ideas, but I'd love to hear some of your fave Clear Liquids (iced teas, juice) and other non clear liquids besides Protein Shakes. Just looking for variety :-)

Thanks for all the help through response and just reading others' threads!!!

Sooooooooooo EXCITED!!!!

Did your Dr. recommend Atkins? Normally the pre-op diet is about reducing the size of your liver eliminating abdominal fat so it's easier to navigate and place the band.

I wouldn't think the nutritional profile of the Atkins diet would generate the liver shrinkage.

Yes, my doctor stated a low carb, low sugar, high Protein "Atkins style" diet will shrink the liver. If nothing else I've been not eating processes foods and I know that in itself will improve my liver function!

I attached a copy, I think, of my docs pre-op diet if anyone is interested.

Still looking for tips, ideas, lessons learned for the liquid phase I anyone has any!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
