Went for my final pre-op with the surgeon this morning. Everything is a go - 2 pm tomorrow afternoon. I had a chance to ask all the final questions I had, especially the ones I have from reading on this and other sites.

I was a little disturbed to learn that the first two weeks post-op are Clear liquids only. I thought it was two more weeks of Protein Drinks. So here's my question: I don't like Gatorade or Powerade or any other 'ade' so what caloric clear drinks do you think I can sip on for two weeks. Obviously I will be enjoying gourmet chicken broth, delectable beef broth, and even some exotic seafood broth. But beyond that, Water, and iced tea, any suggestions?

I'm think I see the road to bandster hell in front of me. . . . .

Rosie - there are some clear liquid Protein drinks in fruit flavors. The brands are Isopure and Cytosport. But I'm sure there are more. If you have Vitamin Shoppe where you live, go in a check it out. They have a lot of stuff to pick from.

Other than that, I feel your pain. When I do even one day of Clear Liquids for a colonoscopy, I'm SO done. My doctor has us on clear liquids the first three days, then we switch to full (creamy) liquids. That lasts up to day 10, then we can add mushy foods. But is sounds like your doctor is conservative, and wants to make sure that you are healing properly before adding any extras. That's not a bad thing!

I like crystal light, it's the only way I can get all my Water in for the day! Prior to the band I wasn't a big water drinker! I also lived on sugar free popsicles! Good luck and congratulations!

Thank you for the suggestions. As others have said here, Protein intake is really important to healing. Hard to obtain on a clear liquid diet. Yes, this doc seems ultra conservative. 2 weeks clear, 2 weeks full liquid, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft - 8 weeks before solid food. Yes, that should drop a few pounds. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
