We entertained over the weekend and A LOT of junk food ended up making its way to my kitchen. I snacked on some of it yesterday... and the effects showed up on the scale this morning. So, I went straight downstairs, dumped chips, dips, Cookies, peanuts, etc. down the garbage disposal. Some (my dh included if he knew ;-) would call this waste, but is it really a waste if the food has absolutely no nutritional value?? I don't think so!!

The waste is to ruin your health, trying not to waste that junk. I told my 12 year old daughter this morning when she said she had gotten a doughnut that was too big (Her Monday morning treat for being ready on time), eat until you are full, throw the rest away.

That was actually and adjustment as well especially when going out for dinner. It is not required to polish off your plate but it is certainly something to get used to changing. Now if my Wife doesn't want what ever it is we don't bother to take it home with us. I do not do leftovers. I would rather waste it then eat around my band.

My Wife and I had a talk yesterday because it was becoming habit for her to take and finish some of my plate if I cannot eat it. Well that is not good for her either. I am eating less and she is eating more. Not good!!

She is considering joining the band ranks this year. Going to a seminar with her in April.

I'm the cook in the house and I did the same as your wife. Two kids, not finishing tater tots, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese etc. Someone had to eat that crap right?

Throw it away!

I keep telling my husband that eating with me is going to be very different. He tends to eat quickly, and when we go out he's going to either slow down, or sit there & wait for me to finish. He knows it's healthier for him to eat slower, so he's looking at this as a way to improve his own health.

When he was young, his family had very little money & food wasn't always plentiful. Though he does not have a weight issue, he cannot waste food; can't throw it in the trash, no matter how bad it is. With my upcoming surgery, I'm preparing him that some food might be left at the restaurant, or some might go into the trash. Though I do not like to waste food either, I'm okay with it....sometimes. Struggling with my weight most of my life, there have been MANY times I'd stuff myself silly & throw the rest of whatever (the evidence) away. Excess food is better in the trash, than inside and out of my body

This may be a dumb question, but what does NSV stand for? I've seen it in different forums, and I can't quite figure it out.

I love your post! My husband is doing the same thing, eating what I don't finish. That's why I didn't feel the least bit bad about throwing away the junk food... he doesn't need it either. He has put on at least 20 - 30 pounds since I've been banded.

Non scale Victory

It's like finding an old pair of jeans that you haven't worn for years and they fit.

I have these weight loss hypnosis recordings and one of the messages is "You are not a trash can. When you eat more than you need you are treating your body as a trash can. It's OK to throw the food away." After listening to that for a few times I finally could leave food and not be in the "Clean Your Plate Club" After the band It's no problem.

In the beginning my Wife as well as I had a hard time with portion sizes. She got a bit offended when I started dishing my own food because she had a hard time adjusting to my needs. She understands completely now. She is getting ready to start her own journey and I feel if she does it we can only be that much more successful...together. We have both learned a lot with my journey which should help her transition go a lot smoother.

Jim - I think it's great that you and your wife will both be on the same track. It really helps, and will open the door to many new "healthful" things you do together; walking, hiking, biking......whatever you like to do. But it's great when shared together :)

Yep they come in all sorts of flavors. Clothes fitting different, compliments, sitting in a booth at a restaurant for the first time in years. Being able to go to a concert or show and not worry about fitting into a seat. Wedding band sliding off. List goes on...

Jim - I know all of those feelings; sitting in a chair....not squeeeeezing into it. Jeans fit, rings fall off, etc. When I lost close to 100 pounds 15 years ago, I experienced all of that. One would wonder how I could let it slip away, but that's why we're all here, now.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
