Protein powders:

I'm a big fan of the unjury, the chocolate Splendor is my favorite. It can only be bought online though but here's the link to it: http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/

It cost $17.99 for a container that is 17 servings (+shipping)

1 scoop has 20g of Protein

The other brand I've been using lately is the Body Fortress Protein powder. It's not as good as the Unjury but it's not horrible. It's also a lot more affordable and you can buy it at Walmart. I like the Peanut Butter chocolate flavor.

It costs $14.99 for a container that is 21 servings

1 scoop has 30g of protein

I just ordered some of the unjury shakes and Soup based on several recommendations here. I use Body Fortress, too, but only like the chocolate. I'm not into artificial fruity flavors of ANYthing.

My surgeon recommended a particular post-op Vitamin and Calcium citrate he wanted me to take. I discovered this is just another income revenue stream for him and - defiantly - purchased similar products elsewhere with great reviews and half the cost. I guess I will know in the future if I'm deficient in any areas but I don't see there's a difference if the values are the same.

Another big fan of Unjury here! I have tried all of the flavors and the vanilla and chocolate splendor are my favorites. The vanilla is fantastic mixed with any type of frozen fruit in place of ice cubes...peaches, strawberries, blueberries, etc. After trying numerous other brands, I just feel like Unjury tastes more mild and less like a "protein supplement". It's a little more expensive than other brands, but they offer an auto ship method where you can choose as much or little as you like and how often you would like it delivered. When you choose auto ship they take 15% off.

I use NOW Sports unflavored whey Protein isolate powder. I get sick of the same flavors over and over, so I hate buying a chocolate powder or a vanilla powder and feeling like I have to use it up. I can mix the unflavored powder with another lower Protein Shake in any flavor, so I can buy individual servings of those flavors and bump up the protein on those, or I can make my own shakes with milk and fruit plus the powder. I can also mix the unflavored powder with low-sugar OJ (tastes just like an Orange Julius!) or mix it with yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. to up those protein values. The versatility is what works best for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
