sweetnana1 1 Posted March 18, 2013 Hi, I like to follow the fourms, but don't post, but I feel that I need to tonight. I just lost my band on Friday, and boy did that hurt not just physically but emotionally too. I meet with my surgeon next week to talk about options. I'm not sure what to do at this stage, just so many questions. I sometimes think I can do this with out the band and then I'm just sure. Anyone else have this problem? 1 kll724 reacted to this
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted March 18, 2013 How long did you have the band? What caused the slip?
sweetnana1 1 Posted March 18, 2013 I had the band placed 2008. It was placed a little high up and was a small pouch. I had EGD and found that out. but I think it was the heartburn and the vomiting for the last 2 weeks that did it. My thoughts, but I really will never know for sure. Vomiting will definitely cause a slip, but what caused the vomiting? Was it a 4cc band by chance?
sweetnana1 1 Posted March 18, 2013 It was an older band the Realize Adjustable Gastric Band it holds 10 cc of Fluid.< /p>
kll724 3,055 Posted March 18, 2013 Best wishes, Sweetnana1, I had a slip back 1 1/2 years ago. The surgeon did an readjust of teh band without having to replace it. If you are on medicare, (at least 2 years ago), they will pay for replacement if needed. Best wishes. Karen
Toddy 758 Posted March 18, 2013 I had to have my restitched and my surgeon added plication (folding the stomach in and stitching it - similar to a gastric sleeve). Plicating the stomach with gastric banding has been shown to cut way down slips. If that had not been an option, I would have definitely gone with the sleeve. I don't want to ever have to try to manage my weight without some kind of help!!

mrsto 2,925 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm going to have the plication done with my band a week from today. I'm doing it for this very reason. From what they know at this point, it dramatically minimizes the potential for slips, and fills are less frequently needed. That, and that it reduces the stomach capacity to 1/4 of normal capacity.
