So I noticed that I started to have this pinkish/yellowish Fluid slowly leaking from my largest incision. Called the surgeon after hours and he said it was normal. Built up fluid messing to be released. Said to put a thick bandage with no ointments and come in Tuesday. Tuesday??!!! I'm such a scary cat, I'm not buying it! Normal?

No buddy, I'm deathly afraid of infection. I've been changing the bandage since Yesterday, but I don't know about this Tuesday mess....it's about fluid the size of a quarter every 3/4 hours. Nothing dramatic, but I still don't want it.

Has this happened to you guys?

Ok thanks. It doesn't appear to be infected. It just looks as though the incision isn't closed all the way. I think the dermabond came off too soon. He says there are "real" sutures underneath so I should be ok. I have a few abdominal surgeries as well, never had an incision to leak...scary!!

I have, and I've also had an infection, and believe me there's a BIG difference. :)

I am a nurse and I agree with your doctor the yellow discharge is actually oils from the fat that is oozing out of the skin and pink is just a little bit of the blood. As long as the incision doesn't not being hot, drain green discharge or bright red blood, or become very red you should be fine to wait. But as always if you really don't feel comfortable you can always go to the ER.

You are right to keep the dressing dry though. Moisture breads germs, germs bread infections!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
