I was told to measure food in cups whenever possible because they were concerned with volume rather than weight. A good example: popcorn. It would take A LOT of popcorn to weigh 3oz, much more than fits in a cup. Likewise, something like baked Beans, is going to weigh more for a cup worth because it's heavier.

Of course, I have to weigh Protein because it can't fit in a cup.

But what I'll eat is 3oz of chicken, 1/2 cup green Beans and a 1/4 cup mashed potatoes

Oh I do usually measure in cups :)

But what I meant was.. Even after measuring.. About 5-10 mins after I eat.. I feel extremely fulI.. (Like i have to sit down and relax a few to digest) i don't know if this is normal because I always over ate my entire life and I'm new to being banded so i dont know if this is normal.. Should I cut down my amount of food maybe to a 3/4 cup or is that just gonna be too little?

Ohhh sorry, I misunderstood!

Learning to eat with your band is a learning experience. This is one of the reasons it's important to pause between bites, not only to give food time to pass through the band but for you to pause and evaluate "am I still hungry?"

If you're not hungry before your 1 cup serving is gone, that's perfectly fine! One thing my doctor told me was to get over my hang up of "wasting food" because if I'm listening to my body and my band, I AM going to inevitably waste food sometimes. So, if you're good after 3/4 cup? Then just don't eat the 1/4 cup left. You don't have to eat a whole cup of food, you just shouldn't eat more than a cup.

Btw, there are some foods that are just really filling and I know I can't eat a whole cup. Chili is one. I make a concoction with chili and low fat cream cheese and after wasting a lot of it numerous times, I know now not to bother serving myself more than 2/3 cup because I can't eat more than that.

I hope that helps :)

Feel free to stop when you feel satisfied, not full. If you wait until you feel full you will feel stuffed shortly afterwards. There is not hard set requirement that eat anything when you are not hungry.

Based on my experience, yes. I am still only up to 3/4 of a cup for the first month and a 1/2 anything over 1/2 a cup would make me extremely uncomfortable.

Thanks everyone that's exactly what I assumed... I can eat a cup of food 1 minute bites. It's after that I feel that I ate too much.. I gonna eat a 2/3 to see if it has the same effect.. Then take it from there..

I just got very caught up on doing things exactly as directed instead of listening to my body 100% of the time.. Everyday since surgery has been a learning experience for me lol
