Melllima 8 Posted March 17, 2013 Hi, I am 30 years old 150 pound, my goal is to reach 100- 110 pounds. Can anybody please talk to me, will this op would help me reach my goal? And has anybody in this body range available in this forum? Doctors will not consider any other operation due to my low BMI, lapband is the only option that few suggested. I just wanna be sure that it gets me there. Tnx

mrsto 2,925 Posted March 17, 2013 I'm not a doctor, but going through surgery and such an extreme life change, seems like a lot for a relatively small amount of weight to lose. I don't know how tall you are, but unless you've been ALL over the map with large weight fluctuations, I can't imagine that a doctor would perform this surgery on you. 6 Cazzy, ☠carolinagirl☠, DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! and 3 others reacted to this

Maybe just try to eat different and see a dietitian for help. I think your BMI has to be well over 35-40 to even be considered. Good luck. 1 zinhaa reacted to this
Melllima 8 Posted March 17, 2013 The problem is not finding a dr, cause i have found one. In my country they do such thing for this BMI. What i am concerned with is the amount that the op will help for the weightloss.

This is where WLS gets the stigma of being "the lazy way out". 3 ☠carolinagirl☠, DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! and 2muchfun reacted to this
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted March 17, 2013 According to your profile, you're 5'2 which means your BMI is only 27. That is below the BMI requirements set by both Realize and Allergan, the makers of the most widely used gastric bands. If any doctor would perform Lap Band surgery on someone with a BMI of 27, they're obviously only in it for the money and not someone I would trust with my laundry let alone my life. Just my opinion. 7 @newMe143, readyforthin, ☠carolinagirl☠ and 4 others reacted to this

It is up to you to use the lap-band to your advantage. If you have a co-morbidity like diabetes or high blood pressure, the weight loss will benefit you in more ways than one. If I were you I would try eating just Protein and vegetables and see where that puts you. No carbs, no sugar. What is your BMI right now? 1 DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! reacted to this
mrsto 2,925 Posted March 17, 2013 I know that some other countries do not adhere to some of the strict criteria we have here in the USA. Though the LB is the least invasive weight loss surgery out there today, it's still surgery, and comes with risks. Any doctor, no matter where they are from, who would consider surgery on someone with your stats, should have their medical license revoked. That's just my humble opinion. 2 DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! and aeromech reacted to this
DebbieC1970 58 Posted March 17, 2013 With any weight loss surgery u have to eat correctly and exercise. Why don't u do that. Most people on here have to lose 100+ lbs and have struggled for years. I would love to have 30lbs to lose, not 110. No one here can lose without doing the work. Maybe you should do the work. I workout hard 5 days a week, u gotta sweat!! 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and aeromech reacted to this
Melllima 8 Posted March 17, 2013 Well, thanks everyone for your comments. Its very uncommon that I have to explain my reasons even here. Anyways i have struggled with weight loss since I have been 15, mentaly I have a huge obsession with this subject. I have never been able to stick to my short term successes in weightloss which has made me a deppressed girl. Belive me I have done the psych work as well. I know that we all somehow have same feelings about this stuff and I think your relationship with food is what matters not your numbers. All I need is to make sure that this op can help me have my desired weight and stick to it? This was my question. Believe me it was not easy convincing the dr too. Anyhow thank you all for your replies.
mrsto 2,925 Posted March 17, 2013 The band will help with how much food you eat at one time, but it will not help you make the right choices of what to eat. Can you eat a pint of ice cream with the band? YES, you can. Can you eat two slices of pizza? NO, most likely, not. Band or no band, it's up to you to do the work. There aren't any guarantees, so if this seems like an easier avenue to get to where you want to be, you may want to re-think it. I don't know where you are located, but Overeaters Anonymous may be a helpful venue for you. I totally understand the head trips, and issues of distorted body image. I've been very thin; actually a bit too thin at one point. Even then, when I looked in the mirror I saw more weight to lose. For your sake, I hope venturing out into something pretty extreme for where you're at, doesn't bring on more serious issues for you down the road; physically and emotionally. I wish you all the best. 3 aeromech, ☠carolinagirl☠ and DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! reacted to this

You have to eat clean and just burn more calories than you eat AND drink. The lap-band is not magic. You have to put the work in just like any other diet. It may work faster but you still have to put the work in. It's still hard work. 3 posthuman, ItsANewDay and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
