I am on my second week post-op. First week was all Clear Liquids. Now, I am on moist and mushy. Does anyone know how many calories you should be consuming at this point? I would say I am about 700-800.

My dr told me that I should be at 800-1000, but every dr is different. Good luck with your journey.

During that time I was also told 800-1000. I was upped when I got to regular food to 1200. Now at 9 months out I was told to up the amount based on my calorie burn. I have a fitbit tracker which my doc is familar with. Based on it I burn between 2100-2300 calories a day. My doc said at this point I should only have a 500 calorie a day deficit because if it's more my loss with actually stall because the body will think it needs to hold on to the fat.

I have heard some people say that they don't believe in starvation mode, where the body holds what it's got in fear you are starving it. But the above came straight from my doctor.

As always I recommend you double check with your doctor/NUT on what they advise for you and your situation.

I wouldn't worry too much right now a about eating 800-1000 calories..

During the phase your at I was eating around 500-600 because I was still healing..

When your on reg food again.. You have to figure out what your dr/nut want you at.. Some people consume 1000-1200.. Some people 800-1000

I'm at 1000 cal a day. For a guy I thought that wasn't enough but still stuck to it as best as I could. My nutritionist than made a good point, She told me- if you really aim for 1000 a day and go slightly over you will still only hit like 1200 or 1300. If you aim for 1500 and go over you will be hitting at 1800 or 2000. To me that made alot of sense. I journal, and try to keep it under 1000. But some nights i still go for that bowl of popcorn during the game.

For me the first 2 weeks I wasnt counting so much because I had no appetitie and would have force myself to drink my shakes and other liquids. After that... it was 1000 calories each and every day for 22 months ;)

Thanks for the helpful information. I just want to make sure I am not taking in too many calories. I had a nutritional evaluation Wednesday and forgot to ask. I guess it is expected the weight loss will be slower now that I am not on clear liquids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
